Yeah, so lately my CPU has been getting dangerously hot while playing TF2. It's Intel Core i5 2500k and it's at 3.30 GHz. It's 2 years old. It has 1 year of warranty left.

After I join a server and play for 3 minutes every core gets over 80 Celsius.
It is using the stock fan, and I guess if I buyed a better fan that would help, but I'm absolutely clueless on how to set them up. I also was thinking it might be because of steampipe. Anyone else having this problem?

And, is there any configs or options to straight reduce CPU usage without reducing graphics?

don't use the stock fan, it's not hard to change either...if you still have the box it has instructions on installing a fan. the stock fan IS a piece of shit.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099 is a good one

Thanks. I was thinking that is the case. I've just been too lazy to buy one.

Also, it seems like cleaning all heatsinks from dust helped. Now it only goes to 74 celsius. :)

yeah just blow the dust out.

Also just buy some 3.70$ cheapo case fans.

Sometimes it's bad case ventilation too - but more typically just dust.

About the configs, you could try using dx9frames or even highframes, they don't (completely) destroy how TF2 looks, but it'll get you some more frames AND should reduce the CPU usage.
Listen to Epoch, the CPU cooler he suggested is pretty awesome for its price, installing the cooler is really easy, there's a lot of guides around YouTube, just like this one.

If you're really scared that you're going to break anything ask someone from your friends who know about this kind of stuff, but I'm sure you could do it yourself.

I disagree. If you keep a CPU at stock clocks boxed coolers are okay as long as you blow out the dust regularly.
