The backstory: Ok, so I decided it was time to upgrade my graphics setup to stupid proportions, so I got myself an HD7990 and now I can play tf2 with chris' highframes at consistent 25 fps.
The next step is to plaster my walls with monitors, so I bought the new asus 120hz one which should arrive some day next week. Right now I have several monitors here already so I thought I might try and check out if I can get 3 running already.
The problem: Only 2 out of 3 would ever run.
From what I read, it has to do with the cables I use. Apparently I HAVE to use one of the mini displayports to ever get more than 2 monitors running. HOWEVER I know that the card is capable of running at least 5 monitors at once (idk shit about daisy chaining) which would require all of the outputs of the card to be used. To make matters even more confusing, one of those outputs is a single-link DVI, so once my 120hz monitor arrives I will have to consider that I cannot use that output for it.
The setup: 3 monitors, all 60hz. Each has DVI and HDMI inputs. The card has 1 Dual link DVI, 1 single link DVI, 1 HDMI 1.4 and 2 mini displayport outputs.
tl;dr Someone explain me how I would theoretically be able to hook up 5 monitors to those outputs, at least one of them being 120hz and what kind of/how many adapters I would need. Is there any way to have 3 monitors running without using a mini displayport period? If so, how?

You'll have to use a miniDisplay port to DVI or HDMI converter. You can only use up to 2 DVI/HDMI at once (1 of each, or 2 of one). Your best bet would be 2 MD to DVI converters, and then just use the two DVI you already have. That's what I can think of.
Or, if you can find a Display port to 2x DVI/HDMI, you can have all 5.

The standard eyefinity dual link dvi d adaptor does not support 120+ hz. You need the usb powered adapter eyefinity to dual link dvi d to enable the higher refresh rates.

That is not the problem. The one 120hz that I am gonna get I can comfortably plug in directly via dual-link dvi or with a mini displayport->displayport adapter if needed since the asus monitor supports displayport. No need for a 100€ apple adapter.
EDIT: Oops I just realized I wrote 120 in the OP but meant 60. The ones that I have lying around right now are all 60. Sorry.

You should be able to use 3 monitors already with the two mini displayports and 1 dual link dvi. I'm not sure if your card can support 5 monitors. What makes me think this is because card is eyefinity 6 only uses the mini displayports on the back. If it actually can support more than 3 monitors, I'm guessing it all needs to be the same style connection converted over.

Yes there is 5 outputs, the thing is usually the mini-displayports are the "eyefinity" ports. My guess is the hdmi port is conflicting with the dvi ports. Have you tried hookin up just one monitor to hdmi and then used the adaptors for the mini displayports?

I don't have any MDP-adapters right now. I can use eyefinity with monitors hooked up to any output I want though. The problem seems to be that I can never have the two DVI and the HDMI on at the same time. Right now I have 3 monitors attached, 2 DVI and 1 HDMI. Yeah drivers are all up to date. Idk aber the adapters, I don't really care, they are like 5-10€ for one except the MDP->dual link DVI one which I don't need. I'm just trying to figure out how many and which ones I would need for a 5 monitor setup and then I'll just get them all for cheap from amazon.

Well 5$ if you're going to cheap out and only go with 60 hz. :) My guess it's the HDMI port that's fucking everything up.

No I'm going 120hz but that monitor doesn't need an adapter. Just all the additional 60hz ones that I have right now and/or might get in the future. The HDMI out itself is working fine, I am using it on one of the 2 working monitors right now. It's just this 2/3 thing that I don't really dig and didn't get around yet.

You're really going to allow some of your monitors to run at 60 hz? YECH! Sometimes you need to headbutt the monitor to get it to work correctly. Sometimes the monitor need to be set for the type of port your trying to use. Have you played around with those options?

Lol. I have some really good quality 60hz monitors here and for video editing and such those should be superior while 120hz is perfect for my central tf2 main monitor.
As for the monitor itself, it should not be the problem since it works as soon as one of the other 2 connections is gone and it is only the second monitor attached. I don't have a lot to change there anyway. In the windows screen resolution menu it is shown as "detach this monitor" and if I try to change it to "extend desktop" it just won't do it.

I meant the monitor itself needs to be set to the port your using. As long as the monitor has power you should be able to use the menu buttons on it to change the setting of the monitor.
