So recently my internet has started doing a fun thing were I will still be connected to the internet but I will not be able to use it. For example web pages don't load and say I have no connection but my PC will say that I am connected to the internet.

The problem does't start until I play a game. It will be fine and work for about 5 minutes then I will time out although still be connected and mumble will also dc. If I go to use the internet after this it will be really slow till I reset my connection.

If I start off with the internet and don't play games it will work fine but the occasional page will take an eon to load or just wont but it's much rarer than when I go to play a game.

If you could help me identify the problem and maybe how I could fix it I will forever be in your debt.

Only happening while gaming or also on heavy usage?
Our router had the same slowing down issues, check if it gets hot and lift it of the ground and check its ventilation

Does this happen with any other Internet connected device on your router?

#2 so far (this has been happening for a week) only when I go to play games do the issues start.

#3 The Family computer which is connected via ethernet and my sisters laptop both experience the second problem.

I tried turning off my router and letting it cool but this was a very short term solution.

What's the router?
Maybe it sucked too much dust in or got recently placed on a carpet or w/e?

The router is the BT home hub 3

Not on carpet and I'll check the dust thing tomorrow. Even though I have been building PC's from 12 I', still not trusted to take things apart for fear that I might decimate them.

Do you still have warranty for it?
Or is this even a known problem for this router?
Contact your ISP maybe or try to update the firmware

Are you opening the TF2 server browser screen and letting it search all servers? Try to cancel that right away.

Yeah I'm just gonna call my ISP tomorrow and demand some fixing.

I join all my servers via console #elitism

Mess around with your DNS settings in your control panel. Worked for me.

Ok so it consistently happens to you, and sometimes web pages takes eons to load for all PCs in the house. Now are the webpages that take forever to load the same ones everytime/same site?

No it's not a set web page that doesn't load. Just randomly takes one a long time to load.

This happens to me as well: applications which were already connected such as AIM and Mumble keep working, but browsers can't load web pages. I'm on a BT HomeHub 2, and I remember reading a LOT about how these routers screw with gaming. Might be worth just getting yourself a new high-quality router, but I would do a bit more searching for solutions first.

Also, just checking my port forwarding settings quickly showed me that I had my source/hl2 set up pointing to an old computer, so that might have been causing it. Check that, see it it helps.
