That's weird. I have a few other issues with smoothing but this isn't one whatsoever. The only thing I can think of is the demo name being too long for TF2 to load it (since that can apparently happen)

I'm 90% sure smoothing is broken in a variety of ways. The only advice I can give is the only advice anyone could ever give - email Valve about it and wait.

1 - it is a very long wait
2 - They can not fix it

It's not typically a "very long wait" unless you're a very impatient person. And it's their video game, I think they will be able to fix it :P
Also he meant to rename the original demo before trying to smooth. Right click the demo you want to smooth, click rename and type something then try to smooth.

flippers, There is a need to do something so that the demo was renamed in one word?
When you said rename ,I did so , demo called badlands_sickkill.dem , I rename in badlands_sickkill_smooth.dem

Can anyone confirm that non P-REC demos work?

This happens with all demos, if you have the problem. I recorded a short demo, smoothed it, no _smooth demo was created. I then uploaded the demo sent it to huhy and he could smooth it no problem.
It is a user specific problem. out of interest did people with the problem convert their TF2 and people without the problem redownload it from new? I converted, dont know if its relevant. P-rec is not anything to do with it imo.
this is all i know and it fucking sucks, i was actually gonna make some clips and stuff but failed at the 1st hurdle :(

One of the things suggested to me by Steam Support was renaming steamapps to old_steamapps and then downloading a fresh install of TF2, which is what I did. I then tried and the problem still remains. So, I dont know if redownloading or converting is relevant.
EDIT: I think we as a community, if we want this fixed, should do some work and that is collect as many people that CAN smooth as we can. Then compare everything - operating system, what custom mods and cfgs they use, what settings, anything that could even slightly be relevant. I dont see any other way to get this fixed, because Valve cannot reproduce the problem. I spoke to NaF and he says he can smooth if using Lawena version 3.1.1 or 4, but he cannot in any other conditions. I have of course tried, but I cannot smooth even in Lawena.

found a new little piece of info today, tried smoothing on my dads computer and it didn't work, could this be a network associated problem? could also be coincidence.
I have tried on my main PC my spare PC and my laptop all dont work. This means its most likely not a hardware issue. Possibly a windows update that caused it? or a windows version? I really dont know.
I am running windows 7 professional, fully updated
