Aside from the obvious choices to be made in Tarantino movies (if you guys like his work, you should check out True Romance, which he wrote the script for), Once Upon A Time In The West is incredible. Also, I was really blown away by Lars von Trier's Melancholia a few years ago. And if you like more old-timey movies, Gone With The Wind seems to be underrated by most people I know, even though it's usually considered a classic. The scene at the end of part one is one of the most inspiring I know.

I know Tom Cruise gets a lot of flak for being a bad actor, but he is quite good in this movie (imo his best movie).

I'm not a big film watcher, but the best I've seen is probably Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

I liked the movie, but it seriously overestimated my ability to distinguish old white men.

Either every person you know knows nothing about film or you're getting the wrong impression by a mile.

One of the very few movies that have made me laugh so hard
Top 3 directors for me : Kubrick, Lynch, Jarmusch.
I would have to say, as Marxist pointed with Solaris, that Tarkovski is a fucking genius. I LOVED Stalker, such a troubling experience.
