I was on my phone on the tf.tv forums a couple of days ago and it was a bit buggy so I got the idea of a teamfortress.tv app. You'll have to excuse me if this topic has already been discussed but I couldn't find anything like this on the forums.
Pros
> An easier access to the forums from a portable device.
> I don't know about others but I would totally be ready to pay a "reasonable" amount of money to get this app which in that case would support the community.
> I think there would be considerably more activity on the forums as most people always have their portable device with them.
> Active feedback
Cons
> I am not at all aware of how hard it would be to make such an app.
> And if there would be money involved how much of this goes directly to the tf.tv crew etc.
> The app would most probably be buggy at the start.
Some sort of short overview thingy.
I personnally would love to see a tf.tv app because atm the mobile internet page is not "ideal" and I think I am not the only one who has this opinion. The community would most likely get more active in general. I don't know about others but if there was a way that people could help on making the app or improving it I believe that many people would make some effort to do this actively.
I understand what I've written here is rather broad but I'd love to see your responses :)

I think this is a pretty neat idea.
It would be cool to have something to view the forums easily with, but honestly this website is very optimized in my opinion, and it loads so fast on my phone (with or without mobile user agent enabled) so I don't know if it's really necessary.
Actually now that I think about it, tf.tv is super easy to browse on my phone and I don't see why an app would be necessary.
What do you mean by "a bit buggy"? What kind of phone do you have?

instead of writing an app, it'd be much easier for me to just do one of the following:
1) write a mobile stylesheet that hides the sidebars and makes the center content responsive
2) redirect to a mobile version of the site

Yeah honestly the only gripe I have with viewing the forums in mobile is I have to double-tap my screen to zoom in, then scroll around to find the buttons I want to click.
Once I click show all threads though, it's really easy from there. But it would be nice to have a m.teamfortress.tv that automatically formats the zoom, text size, and centers everything. That would be really cool.

There is nearly nothing an app can do that a mobile site can't do.
I see no reason to not just use a mobile version. However, if you do make a mobile version, please have an option to toggle back and forth between it and the regular site.

a mobile version would be as good as an app imo. maybe an app that adds events to your phone's calendar or something in the future, but a mobile design would be awesome for the time being.

Yeas it would be great and also enough to just make a mobile version of the site. Never really thought about that... ^^ I guess I didn't really think about the whole thing a lot before I did the post.
I do however like Crespi's ideas in general.

I don't really know what I meant in all honesty. I guess I meant that the app wouldn't really be perfect at a start. But this is the case for most apps I guess.

An "announcer app" would be ideal, great idea. Just so you can get the upcoming events on your lockscreen etc. Maybe this is even a possible feature for a mobile website... I am not sure though.

If you have an android with 4/4.1+, you can create a widget on your homescreen that is linked to any webpage :)

Same with iOS
Edit: idk why I'm getting downfragged for this, all you ahve to do is click Add to Homescreen and it'll create a widget on your homescreen that is linked to any webpage.

A link doesn't give any actual up-to-date information.

Ensure to enlarge the page numbers in the mobile version. It's shocking how many mobile themes don't increase the size of them.

Works fine on my 3 year old android phone. Spoiler tags are just fine as well. Maybe you're just using a crap browser?

Im pretty sure creating an app costs a shit ton of money to do so with all the licensing and stuff in the end. I brought up the idea for an internship im working with and they mentioned that it would cost a lot more money than they want to be spending.

Not on android. (afaik, not on ios either, but I am not sure)

android is open source and it costs something like $25 to post stuff on the play store

Nah, it's not all that expensive to just make an app.
To create a good one, though? That's a whole different thing.
More likely, your workplace would actually NEED to invest a decent amount of money to make sure the app is of good quality, maintained/updated, etc.
