Looking into building a completely new computer, been playing tf2 on a laptop for like 3 years. I'm in the price range of $600-$700. I was told to build it around a video card, and upon further research, I think i'm going with a 560 TI. Seems like the most popular mid-budget card. Any help would be appreciated, plus an opinion on the card I picked.

NOTE: I'm just looking for ideas here, not necessarily the full build.

Edit: Also looking for something that has the ability to stream surfing/pubs comfortably.

I'd get an i5 2500k and any old video card if you're only going to play tf2.
Otherwise a 560 ti is a great card (Have one myself). It can play most newer games at high to max settings.

I also would like to play ARMA, BF 3, and Skyrim casually. Among some newer games coming out this year

An HD 7850 is a better card for a comparable price, but you should make sure you have a decent CPU to fit in your budget before looking at GPU, seeing as you're trying to play TF2.

What would be the price range on my GPU if on my build I need an i5 2500k? What would be the max I get and still keep in my range?

With the help of my friend, put together this build, would like all of your opinions on what you would change/down grade/ upgrade.

Case: apevia x-jupiter g-type melatic grey case with blue interior fans and blue leds
It is on sale for 29.99.

HDD: western digital wd blue 320gb 7200 rpm
320 GB is enough for me. I've been running on 280 for a while (laptop).

GPU: Evga superclocked gtx 660 2 gb
Really want opinions on this, notice it's not the TI version.

Power Supply: corsair non modular 600w 80 plus bronze power supply
Should be fine for the GPU.

RAM: corsair vengeance 8gb ram
8 GB is good for me, I think 4 is too little.

Motherboard: asus p8b75-v lga 1155 intel mobo
I have no clue what a good motherboard would be, so really need help on this one.

CPU: intel core i5 3450-ivy bridge cpu
Do you think this is necessary? Or should I downgrade to 2500k?

That is a pretty good build. The 3450 and 2500k are interchangeable and its your choice. The 2500k is ~$20 cheaper. If you are over clocking go with the 2500k.

The 560ti is about ~$75 cheaper then the 660. But the 660 is the faster card. For the games you play 560ti is good enough. With the extra money you saved you can grab a 128gb ssd. Put your OS and games you mainly play on it and you'll be very happy with the performance.

Don't get an SSD if you're going for a cheap computer imo 1tb (~$90) > 128gb (~$90) SSD, but I have a ATI 5670 (~$50 now) and a phenom 2 965 (~$120) and I run the game on max with constant 60+ fps, you don't need a very good comp to play this game, if you are going for a cheap computer get ATI parts theyre cheaper and they aren't really that much worse than intel/nvidia 16gb of DDR3 ram is only like $110 now so you could easily get 8gb+ of ram for cheap

My prices on parts might be out of date haven't really looked at the prices recently, but you could easily build a computer only for tf2 for less than $600

For streaming though I've heard intel CPUs handle streaming lots better than AMD

#8 Yeah I think i've decided on the 560 TI. Should handle what I want.

#9 Well, i'm playing games on top of TF 2, so it puts me out a little bit more $$$.

If you plan to mainly play TF2 on a resolution 1650x1050 or lower, you can probably just stick with a $100-$150 card. Since you play other games, your card is a pretty good choice. CPU is the killer, and if you're getting an i5 (any kind is amazing) you'll be set. So around $400 on the CPU+GPU leagues $50 RAM (stick with 8 GB @ 1600, unless you plan on matching pair pieces of DNA or something), $50 PSU, $50-$100 Mobo, $50 case, then whatever you want on a storage drive. SSD's are definitely worth getting, but if your budget isn't high enough don't bother. Space comes before performance for HD's usually (as long as it's 7200 RPM+), since 128 GB SSD is surprisingly damn small.
