I am looking for really creepy/scary horror movies/ thrillers. I´m really not into the gory kind of that genre, more the found footage part. Movies that stood out to me so far were "REC1+2" and "The Tunnel". I would appreciate you guys recommending me some movies!Best one gets a hat :D
** incoming obvious movies **
the sixth sense was pretty scary when i watched it. i was really young though, but still it was pretty good. the shining is also pretty good. original or remake, doesn't really matter.
one movie that really stood out to me when i watched it some time ago was the blair witch project. i was again really young when i watched this but for a while i thought the BWP's symbol's myth was real lol
some people i know have said the first couple paranormal activity movies were scary but i couldn't tell you myself.
original texas chainsaw massacre was great.

The only recent horror movies I've seen that I thought were really good, is Cabin in the Woods and Insidious, Cabin in the Woods isn't all that scary but it's definitely worth a watch.
Here's a trailer for Insidious, it's nothing terrifying but it's the first movie I've seen in a long time that genuinely freaked me out a bit.

I watched the Triangle recently.
It wasn't scary scary, I think they categorized it as psychological thriller, but I really liked it.

blair witch was the first horror movie I ve ever seen. I was 12years old and meant to be in bed for hours already. So i plugged in my headphones to my TV so my parents would find out i was still up. Watched the movie from like 15cm away :D With all the cracking and shit direct in my head. Sweet dreams for weeks
I heard the conjuring was pretty scary but it just came out and i haven't seen it myself yet. Also The Strangers is pretty creepy.
How was shining good, best part of that movie was when the dude, tried to come through the door with a axe. Everything else was boring as shit.
Some funky movies I have watched:
Sinister
Drag me to hell
The Strangers
Insidious (meh)
Wrong Turn
Grave Encounters (I have only seen the first one)
Mirrors (looks interesting, haven't seen it myself yet)
I have a lot more, I can update it if more come to mind.

If you like found footage you may like V/H/S

also the Poughkeepsie Tapes

Both are kind of gory, but solid films nonetheless.

Sinister and The Strangers are both interesting. I'm pretty sure they have both already been recommended but those are two that I really enjoyed.
one I thought was good that hasnt been mentioned was Jacobs Ladder
These 2 have already been mentioned but they are worth a re-mention.
John Carpenter's "The Thing", was the best sci-fi horror flick ever made, period.
Also watch Cabin in the woods, A++ as well.

I've only seen the first Paranormal Activity but honestly it was more of a comedy than a horror. I couldn't stop laughing.
I went and saw The Conjuring and it was actually really good. What Paranormal Activity should have been.

MunchJohn Carpenter's The Thing
My grandfather watched the original 1951 movie when he was a kid and he said he sprinted home afterwards because he was so scared.

cabin in the woods is basically a horror comedy, it doesn't really fit with what he's looking for
Lights_Insidious.
I laughed so hard when I watched this movie, the antagonist looks like fucking darth maul

Another vote for John Carpenter's The Thing one of the best films I've seen.
If you like suspense/horror films, Hitchcock's films (like the birds or Psycho or Vertigo) are really good to watch because they'll basically ruin 60% of horror films you watch from then on because of the amount of stuff that's carbon copied - as far as methods of building suspense.

Cabin in the Woods was pretty good but wasnt that scary, wasnt really the purpose so to speak.
Another vote going out for Insidious, especially since it has a sequel coming out
I'll second V/H/S. If you like the found footage style of .Rec, you'll like it. There's a sequel out too but I haven't seen it yet. I like anthology type movies, so Trick R Treat is up there too.
