So I'm going to Europe for a week and a half, will have access to wifi for the majority of my trip. Regular international calling is ridiculously expensive, does anyone have a recommendation on maybe a voip calling app or some other workaround so I can call back to tthe USA for relatively cheap? Will be in England and Germany if that makes a difference.

Google Voice is pretty cheap, ~10 cents a minute

To clarify, I will be communicating via my phone to another phone
If you have an iPhone check out the viber app (it's free)

they have mumble for mobile, the only person ive tried it with is pure and it worked as good as the pc version.

Viber should work for you - it has Windows and OSX versions as well as iOS, Android, Windows phone, etc. versions
Also it's free

you can pick up prepaid SIM cards with good international rates, not as cheap as skype though

Only problem with that is that both platinum and the person he's calling have to be in a mumble server at the same time so unless there isn't a designated time or some form of synchronization, it wouldn't work.
I also suggest skype. It's easy to use and cheap.

get magicJack, i used it when i went to peru, free calls to the US as long as you have access to wifi
Maybe a Go Phone? You can throw minutes on there as needed, I can only assume it doesnt matter where you call with it.
If you don't have a fancy phone and you're just calling another phone, they still sell international calling cards - 20$ for like 4 1/2 hours was what it was like 4-5 years ago, can't remember I was using it to call home while I was in Nicaragua, and then bought some to call my, at the time, gf who was in France for a month. It wasn't too much of a hassle, and wasn't that expensive as long as you aren't intending to call multiple hours a day.
I use Zello for PPT talks with wifi and stuff. It's pretty good and easy to use on phones and stuff.
Google hangout/ Skype seem like the way to go for free international calling
Google Voice is really cheap and has an Android and iOS app.
I talk nearly everyday through viber to my friend who is lived in America and now Afghanistan. As long as you both have wifi you can send a text or call them for free.
