My Zalman clip on died when my new puppy decided to chew on it. I'm on the fence on buying the same one since it picks up so much background noise. I have the TV on in the computer room about 4-5 feet away whenever I am playing. The reason that I have it on is that my wife is generally asleep while I am playing and it helps her to not hear me talking.
So does anyone know of a good mic that doesn't pick up the background noise as much as the Zalman does? It's so bad about that I have it set at about 10 percent and it still picks up everything. BTW, the audio quality is great on it, but I am hoping to find one that is just as good. Just a thought, but would a single-directional be better in my case?

Something like the Samson Meteor or the Blue Snowball might suit your needs, but there is also the AntLion ModMic that sounds pretty good and picks up less background noise in general.

had this from an Asus motherboard like 8 years ago. It mounted to the top of the monitor.

This is how it is now. The metal is from a clothes hanger. It can pivot up and back down.

It's gone through many versions but it's still very functional. :D

No one is explaining why it's worth that price though. What does it go that is worth the price tag?

It's a USB microphone as well...HUGE turn off for me.
and what happened to the microphone? It's difficult to see the black microphone on black keyboard.

It has multiple pickup patterns which is rather "new" for an USB-microphone and offers pretty solid quality even for a mic of that type and price.
More expensive microphones basically present your voice in a more clear and natural way, not just picking up the voice and turning it into a signal like normal cheap-as-banana microphones.
And USB-mics offer the most common PC-port connection known to anyone, USB.
XLR on a motherboard.. Ain't going to happen. 3.5mm jacks are usually pretty poor on computers without any external audio interfaces or soundcards.
