recently I've been having a problem with my game. whenever I'm pubbing or playing a match or whatever, and I see a spy cloak/uncloak, or a medic with his medigun out, my fps will drop by like ~40. it hasn't really happened before but it's been happening a lot more frequently and it's making my game next to unplayable. does anyone know of a fix for this? also sorry if this thread has been made multiple times before

If you have a Nvidia card, recently there drivers have been shit soo you might wanna check that out.

Rolling back to 314 is your best choice for right now, although they released new ones today although I dont feel like wasting my time on another bad set of drivers

"FPS lag" that term makes me cringe so hard. It's lag or FPS drop, not both. They're two completely separate terms, one refers to connection (and more precisely latency) and the other refers to framerate. Please excuse the off topic reply.
In response to the question try rolling back your driver anyway, even if you're on an ATI card. Alternatively you can try updating your drivers. Also validate your game cache. Have you made any changes to your game/system recently? If so undo them and see if that fixes it.
EDIT: Also try using/removing an FPS config you are/aren't using one, try a different DirectX level. Maybe you're using some custom texture or a custom sound that's broken and bugging the game out? Next time it happens, please check the console and see if there are any error messages related to the problem.

fps lag = low fps in general
fps drop = hitches, stutter, etc
lag does not exclusively refer to latency even in the networking sense. all it means is that in general something is behind what it should be in some way, which low fps *does* cause. if you're adamant about it then you're just a bigot (lit.).

i have this same problem when i see a spy decloak i lose like 60 frames it's insane. it goes back to normal afterwards but still horrible. also when i see the meet the medic taunt i get 10 fps i have an old ass ati card with old ass drivers any other method to fix this
