Mouse click delay?

Whenever I click LMB to shoot, there's a slight delay between the click and the shot, around 1/2 a second. It's been throwing me off a lot trying to play scout, as if I have to predict-fire my hitscan weapons.

I don't think it's my mouse (Logitech m705) as I have the same problem with the touchpad buttons on this laptop, but I'm not sure what else it could be. I'll get specs up shortly, if needed.

If Bloodsire's going to mention anything related to this, you'd think it would be about the "Magical Interp". Just make sure it's not randomly set extremely high. Also, is this only in tf2?

Interp is at 0.033. And yeah, it's TF2 only.

I tried a different USB port but it didn't make a difference. Like I said, my left touchpad button has the same issue.

Also, to note, there isn't any input lag for mouse movement, just for clicking.

I've had this problem since long before this forum got me hooked on Cookie Clicker, haha. Before, I just thought my aim was off, so I just kept playing.

Going Grandmas-only at the moment, by the way.

Could be huge amounts of input lag, ping issues, or interp settings.

GeknaiirCould be huge amounts of input lag, ping issues, or interp settings.

I'm only having input lag issues with clicking, movement is perfectly fine. I'm having this problem even if I create a server.

As for interp settings, the following is from my autoexec:
cl_cmdrate 66
cl_interp_ratio 1
cl_lagcompensation 1
cl_pred_optimize 2
cl_smooth 0
cl_smoothtime 0.01
cl_updaterate 66
rate 60000

(My class cfgs have different cl_interp settings; Scout has 0.033, for example.)

2 of my deathadders had this issue 1 was a usb port problem, the other was I outclicked the left click

you said it is only on the Left click right? If you experience no other mouse lag, and right click is functioning okay I would consider the possibility that you have clicked your left click one too many times

if you have an nvidia card you can check your max pre-rendered frames and drop it down to 1. Default is 3.

With ATI it's called flip-queue but I'm not sure how you would go about changing it there, sorry.

I have an Nvidia card and that helped quite a bit, thanks.

The shot still doesn't coincide with my clicking, although it's definitely closer. Is it possible for the shot to happen at the exact same time that I click? Or is it impossible because it takes time to get the mouse input, interpret it, and shoot?

you are most likely experiencing input lag. There's some input lag through every part of the chain of events from the polling of the mouse, to your cpu and all the way to your monitor and what you see. Everything has it's own lag and all my setting helped with is the CPU lag. Try different USB polling speed options and or a different mouse to see if there is an issue there. Maybe both the laptop and the mouse aren't performing well so just try another mouse to rule that out for sure.

Seems like a simple way to troubleshoot...

Bind fire to a keyboard button, same issue?

Play a different game using left click, same issue?

How about plugging your mouse into a different computer.

Laptops and bad mice have awful input lag. My old mouse (Logitech m105) gave me about 1/4 of a second, and many wireless mice, especially ones designed to be really ergonomical, are even worse. Playing on my Macbook (on windows partition, ridiculously well optimized to give best performance) gives me about 1/8 of a second, even when I'm getting 100 fps. In general, if you upgrade your hardware, you'll get a much better result.
