UGC Euro worth playing?

I was going to make my own Euro team for UGC and enter Platinum but I was informed of two things:

1) The competition in UGC is a lot lower than it was before, as in there will be a lot of games that will not be close.

2) Wireplay HL will have better competition and prizes.

Add to the fact UGC has really long seasons and is snubbed by Europe's elite, I find there is absolutely no value in playing there anymore. For the sake of competition I figure it is best to move away and populate Wireplay, their map list is more or less the same, the length is shorter and schedule less strict (you get wildcards I hear, which will be convenient when I go on holiday).

Anyone else feel the same?

UGC is weird.

High Plat and low Plat is a big difference. Comparable to Low Open to High Open, but it's a little worse there. In high plat you can find teams full of invite players like Ruwin, harbleu, the whole r5 crew, etc... But in low plat they are just barely better enough than the rest of Gold that the admins move them up to plat so they don't get complaints for the newcomers into the gold divison. They attempted to add the division "Gold" in between Silver and Platinum similar how ESEA added the "Main" division in between IM and Invite. But it didn't have the same effect partly because the seasonal decrease of platinum level teams. I feel that the reason why UGC is so popular is because it's so accessible to the casual competitive player. Sign up and join a roster.

I myself have never heard of Wireplay before but from your description it seems superior to UGC. I may have a little bias due to some unpleasant prior experiences with UGC admins so take what I say with a grain of salt. If it were me, I would go with Wireplay. But if you have more time on your hands I say UGC. Hoped this helped a little bit.

While I can't comment on either, I can tell you this.

Wireplay has someone of the best, most helpful admins you will ever see in a game league. Those guys have run it religiously since the days of TFC and were one of the first to jump on the bandwagon when TF2 came out. For 6v6 they've always struggled because they've always had this weird second class syndrome where rather than competing with ETF2L on their own terms, they'd always aim to be a fun sideshow. For example 7v7, their 6v6 unlocks/maps, etc.

If they manage to find themselves a solid niche in EU highlander, I couldn't think of better candidates for the job.

The reason UGC euro plat isn't looking too great is because silver level teams are being moved up to plat due to the lack of plat skill level teams

Now that wireplay has an actual prizepool it's better than UGC in every aspect. I talked to a lot of people from ugc plat and they all basically said the same thing: wireplay > ugc

Wireplay doesn't have shiny in-game medals tho (I think, not absolutely sure), believe it or not that plays a big part for many people.

Those aren't the kind of people we want to play the game with. If you're only playing for a medal at platinum level you should really reconsider...lots of things

Hildreth was weighting the advantages of wireplay over UGC so I simply stated that advantage which UGC has, and it does matter whether you like it or not.

I know plenty of people who play for medals (well not only but it plays a big part) in all skill levels. Hell, I played ReadySteadyPan for the medal, and at the end found it hilarious and a lot of fun.

If you want to play decent maps with a tourny run properly against teams that are in your skill level, then Wireplay is the best option compared to UGC.

There's actually prizes and the top div won't be made of division 4 players.

I would love to see Wireplay grow as a HL league, their admins are some of the most helpful and polite admins I have ever interacted with.

My team has been thinking the same thing. Wireplay shows more promise for the future and the platinum division of UGC usually gets snubbed by the prems and the top 3 teams roll over everything. The UGC Platinum division had 24 teams in the last season, while each division of Wireplay has 8 teams.

With the increase of the prize pool for this upcoming season it's just icing on the cake.

You should definitely go for it considering you won it last time anyway. (0.25 points :( )

UGC only offers a shiny medal and little competition, especially if you look at the teams in Plat right now. Rather than signing up for UGC they should see that some of the top teams have decided to leave them and go somewhere else. Might consider their "allow anybody who requests to be plat" rule.

I think we're just going to enter both, but mostly focus on Wireplay and only play UGC officials. Someone told me that Wireplay would be done before UGC playoffs, and seeing as basically every team gets a spot in the playoffs, you could still tryhard both :).

UGC also has shite admins, so that's another thing to consider.

Personally I would focus on the good leagues like Wireplay and ETF2L and use UGC for the medals/messing around and testing new strats.
