I don't understand why its so popular
I was reading the manga before it became and anime and it drags for so many chapters, something interesting happens about once every 4 issues. Its a pretty average manga/anime

Because it's a mystery series, not full blown action. The action is just to grab people's attention. The mystery behind it is pretty interesting once you think about it. Trying to figure out where titans come from, what's in the basement, how many human titans there currently are,
, why titans attack human titans,
, etc.
The one I'm leaning towards is that
In all honesty, the anime is pretty meh, so many errors it's really just there to make some extra cash and promote the manga. The manga, on the other hand, is really neat. I read through it all in one sitting.

The one I'm leaning towards is that
Titans eat people to try and regain their human forms. Ymir said she 'stole' someones power by eating them, which is why I think this is true. There's also the factor that Titans have no reason to eat humans otherwise. They are all just hoping that they eat a Human Titan to steal their power.Monkey Trouble is most likely a Human turned Titan, probably the first. He's been around forever and can speak, this is noted when he asks about the gear. The village also was destroyed, but no bodies and Titans came from nowhere. It's thought that MT can create Titans himself, probably because he knows how to. The basement probably holds more info on the past. That's not even bringing up the wall of Titans, why the church has full knowledge of this, what the Human Titans are trying to accomplish, whether or not they are working with or know about MT.
The whole "i don't usually like anime but this one's different" thing is pretty silly.
What i think you mean by that is that you've never given anime a shot. There are other shows similar to Shingeki no Kyojin that you would probably also enjoy if you were willing to try them.

AoT got boring after the pacing slowed down. I'll probably watch it again when they've completed the 1st season.
Loving this anime, just about to watch episode 20+21.
Fyi it's made by the Director of Death Note and published by shounen, It's been pretty entertaining so far, I prefer the darker tones to the hop along/Kawaii type of shit.

I think it's alright. It's a series I don't want to spend my time and internet downloading, but I read the manga.

It's basically the newest Sword Art Online - average generic characters built around tropes put on a "fight for x group's survival" storyline directed by M. Night Shamalan.

It's pretty decent. Most of the anime that started in the spring season were pretty dire (beside Hataraku Maou Sama which was hilarious) so it was one of the few from then that I enjoyed watching.
It is a shounen anime first of all and there's nothing wrong with that. It actually went from pretty interesting to pretty mediocre though for me halfway through rather than the opposite. It always had its flaws but it was still enjoyable to watch. The main characters are actually the least interesting unfortunately but some of the side cast are really good. Not really important to the actual anime but I really like the first OP too.
The biggest problem of the anime is making you care about the main storyline. Especially now in the second half, it became a lot more bland and the enjoyable part of the anime are the character interactions and the action sequences.
Again, I think part of the reason I liked it at first was probably partly due to the fact that there was only one other good show that season but it is definitely not a bad series, just a decent one with quite a few problems. It's not something I'd recommend to anyone but it's not something I'd drop either. Most of what I said sounds pretty negative but I do enjoy watching it still.
It also has the most hilarious facial expressions.

Took your recommendation and im currently on ep 14. Havent watched any animu in a few months, and this might get me back into it. But fuck if this anime isnt depressing and soul crushing at times.
#59 that's why I like this anime compared to many of the other shounens. there's no stupid I can resurrect this person back to life or having 2nd chances. the anime constantly reminds what it would be like for humans to have to deal with adversity especially with a force of nature (the titans) that challenges their existence constantly and that they will have to make hard-felt sacrifices for the betterment of mankind as a whole. of course with any genre especially shounens, you're going to have to put up with common tropes where some will be more annoying to others depending on your tastes.
Overall, I would give this anime a solid 7 (5 being the avg score for my scale). There are some pacing issues especially with the 2nd half and the luxurious use of cliffhangers. I still find Steins;gate, Katanagatari, and Higurashi as the more recent anime gems.
