Losing Interest in Comp

So in August I took a trip to Africa for a month. Before that I had been needing a much needed break from TF2 and this trip seemed like just the thing. So I come back from my trip and I play for a couple days to remember how to play, and suddenly Comp just doesn't seem as interesting anymore. Pugging just doesn't seem as fun anymore and everything else is frustrating. I assume it's because I just didn't play for a month.

So, any tips for getting back in to Comp?

Might be an unpopular opinion on a gaming forum, but if you aren't having fun playing, maybe you should just stop playing.

TBH, since you spent a whole month traveling, it's unlikely that something so trivial as video games will even come close to that.

Agree with this statement completely. Especially going to a place like Africa where things are so different from America. Kinda puts things in perspective for you when you go to a place like that.

So that my post isn't completely useless i'd say play when you want to. I went on vacation for a little while and when I came back I could only play tf2 for around 30 mins without it getting boring. I would only play when I really wanted to and that was just pubs. Then I would do lobbies occasionally and after that I started pugging again. Going from a completely unstructured game (pub) to a lobby then to a pug made it all the more fun for me.

do you have a team?
if not do you have people you enjoy pubbing/pugging with?

do you feel like youre making progress anymore?
if not are you ok with that?

do you enjoy the class you play?
if not maybe its time to switch it up

maybe get into dota or csgo or some mmo or start working out or something

dont force hobbies on yourself, its the only guaranteed way to ruin them

play duck hunt, go hunting in GTA 5 or Assassins Creed 3, it will come back to you

all kidding aside, its always good to take a break, try to pubbing more and see how that goes

i always do a lot of grinding in the summer and it is usually the time i improve the most. but once classes start again and i hang out with friends more, play sports, go to parties etc., the idea of sitting down to scrim/pug/MGE is really unappealing. take this time off to enjoy real life more, or maybe get into another game. around winter time is when I start to get back into the game as I gain more free time.

Thanks guys, pubbing with friends might make the game a whole lot more fun.

Dude I wish I didn't enjoy this game, playing this game has kinda hurt my social life and my school life.

You are probably better of this way, just mix every once in awhile with friends. Don't force it.

This 100%.

I've done this and it's great. Sometimes playing too much comp can really wear you out. Just take a break again, maybe play a pub here or there. Luckily for me I have class which is the main reason for my break, but I'm looking forward to actually playing in the future, and if I change my mind, nothing of value will be lost.

In the end it's video games. If you aren't having fun, don't play it, you'll just get angrier.
