He should definitely be punished in some sort of fashion. I've been playing TF games for almost 15 years and never once had an urge to download cheats to try them out because it's all just plain stupid and not even funny in the slightest. Phrakture isn't THAT amazing in MGE, he just made a big mistake with letting his curiousity get the best of him goofing off in lobbies. Obviously the community is going to be disappointed in him just making it to invite and getting caught for this. I think he should just come clean and move past it. Do the Andy Pettitte way of a press conference and not a Barry Bonds.
I used to play with him I believe when he first switched over from console TF2 on his xbox and I was giving him tips. He's not a bad guy he just likes being looked at as a good player. I hope he doesn't let this ruin his career and all the hard work he actually did put in to get legitimately good at the game all over a dumb stint in lobbies. As a community if we're soft on cheaters it's just going to get worse and worse. Whether it's in a lobby, a pug, or a match it has no place in this community.

2sy_morphiendSoapMagusBut why mess around and cheat when you're in invite? You know the risks, you know you might get caught. You're playing with fire. The logic to do this is just astounding, but I guess shitlords will do anything to inflate their egos.
I doubt phrakture installed hacks in an attempt to "inflate his ego". It was probably just an attempt to have some cheap laughs while stomping lobbies.
Yeah but this only high-lights the irony of why the fuck would he A. Wait until he knew he was playing in invite to do that and B. Play 20 days worth of MGE to presumably get good at the game if he was just going to hack when he wanted to stomp lobbies. It only gets funnier when you consider the conditions in which he did hack (those being in a game with recorded stats, with at least a tangential overlap with the tf.tv community, on an alt that was capable of being traced to him with public information)
Exactly my point. If you're in invite you should be able to stomp lobbies anyway. I don't understand how using cheats gets you a "quick laugh". It's spitting in the face of the community because you know you might get caught but you do it anyway. That's why it's ego inflating. Back in the day we were always told that Invite players were supposed to be representative to the community. No flaming, no hatespeak, etc etc. I guess that's changed.
That being said, I'm pretty sure no one thought fagature was good before this shitstorm anyways, so I guess back to normal then.

In TFC we had a talented programmer named Ruiner who was actually caught cheating in one of my teams matches with an auto det on his pipes aka stickies back then. To make it back to the community he developed one of the best multi-cheats the game ever had and named it "Perfect Player". There was a catch to this amazing hack however. It logged your ip address, your steamid, the name you were playing under, and a few other things. About a year after he released the hack he posted the entire list of hackers on the forums and we ended up banning half of the community. You'd be surprised how many people actually do cheat and get away with it for so long. Not all cheats are super obvious to catch, but simple things like seeing through walls and knowing enemies healths are certain kind of advantages that would enable you to make better decisions in games that could just seem like a good play or luck. Can't be lenient or too gullible because the truth is.. It's definitely out there whether you want to believe it or not. The ESEA client is absolutely worthless as far as detecting cheats go and i'm sure a lot of players take advantage of it. I remember when the list came out in TFC and I was absolutely shocked on some of the players who were listed you never would have thought. Nicest guys around, seemed totally legit.

Honestly, do we need to care if players within this community have alternative accounts to do whatever on TF2? Besides cheating, though.

So are we still going to weigh in on Phrakture being a cheating invite player or are we just gonna kind of let it slide?

John, you can't cross-examine the witness if he isn't old enough to be tried as an adult. That's like asking a toddler why he made boom boom.

If by past you mean the three (?) lobbies he played then sure

i doubt phrakture hacked outside of those lobbies. you guys are just feeding the ego of a kid who plays against himself in mge with alts to inflate his mge elo. stop.

The assumption of the community seems to be that the esea client is worthless and given its history with detecting cheaters and especially given its current streak post-jaguar era as being an unreliable piece of shit, it seems better to err on the side of caution here right? The guy has multiple alts and we have incontrovertible evidence that he was hacking on at least one of them, to freely pardon him on the assumption that "Well he's probably not hacking on his main account" is pretty much to state that unless you are banned on your main account we don't give a shit if you're hacking.
We know for a fact it was the same guy, on his own alt, on his own computer, hacking. As previously mentioned, other leagues already have rules in place for this sort of debacle and most of those rules aren't leagues stating that you can kill someone so long as you don't do it on their client.

It shouldn't matter where you were caught hacking; if you were VAC banned recently, then you've hacked recently. How can we be sure he wasn't just trying out which ones work and which don't, to see what works on client or something?

Then again, the community has a history of not caring about VAC bans. See: vhalin, ametrine, hoegie, infamous, sandcastles, etc.

Sorry let me clarify; we made a huge deal about it but then they kept playing anyway because teams apparently don't care if they play with known hackers.

For the most part that's true. There were plenty of people that asked for these people to be banned originally though, and as someone that did play with Hoegie I can at least offer my explanation for it. When I did play with him it had been more than a year since he hacked and we required him to record himself playing. Similar situations apply for ametrine and vhalin being that their vac bans had ostensibly been up for quite some time.
People didn't play with ametrine for quite a while after he was caught iirc, and despite the vac'd alt clearly belonging to vhalin (alias was nilahv for the record) he never publicly owned up to it and there was no way of proving that the vac was tf2 related or even recent. Infamous was vac'd a day after he hacked and no one has played again with him to my knowledge, and sandcastles hacked on client but was immediately exposed as walling and that team died immediately after. Funny story: I can't even remember if the sandcastles ban was manual as well (As blackbanjo's was).

Blackbanjos was manual and sandcastles was via the client. The only reason I remember was the thread that was made, something like, "ESEA CLIENT ACTUALLY CAUGHT SOMEONE!!@@!!111"
