I think a lot of people took a hit on their fps when the Halloween update came out.

Try uninstalling and re-installing. That helped me when my frames dropped. If that didn't work try dx8. They do recommend a 3.4ghz processor but I highly doubt that is what it is.

Is it only tf2 you are getting frame drops? have you updated your video card drivers lately? have you tried defragging tf2?

It's embarrassing to post this publicly, but maybe it'll help someone as fucking stupid as I am.

I was having issues with Tf2 stuttering with nearly constant regularity. I googled a description of my problems and started going down the list of potential solutions. (Running maxframes, turning off multi-core processing, validating TF2, etc.) One thing led to another and I'd eliminated all questions my problems being hardware related.

Earlier this week I just checked my Net_graph 3 output while I was in game and saw that I was getting severe and regular packet loss; I called my ISP, had them confirm it was a wiring issue, and had it fixed in two days.

Make sure it's not something simple before you start fucking with all of your hardware and TF2 settings.

Try using AMD Catalyst to update drivers.

FPS doesn't matter above 60. Your eye can't see above 60 FPS. My rig is capable of running TF2 with Chris' Maxquality config at 400 FPS but that's just silly so I capped it to 60.

2013 and still people claim there is no notable difference above 60fps...

Yes. TES SKyrim run well on medium and with small lags on high, for example.

Not sure about hardware, b'cause other games run well. Maybe reason in some servers or my internet too, but it's strange, because everything was well in summer and spring, and i changed nothing.

backup config. use default settings. see if problem persists. if not, get a new fresh config

also if what i said above doesn't help, download an older driver. don't use beta drivers

While TF2 is notorious for getting more and more demanding over time, an i5 should still be able to handle it easily. Reinstalling and changing configs are probably best bets.

I tried to install other fps configs, but it didn't help. Well, i'll intsall older drivers and reinstall my config.

i once had the problem that my graphics card would clock down to like 500MHz because usage with chris frames was only 20%. This made for a really stuttery experience.

You surely are cpu limited as well so install something like msi afterburner and monitor you gpu clock. If it's too low turn on some graphcis settings.

Also, core affinity. It might work

for msi afterburner: just download it, install & start it, should work just like that. Then start TF2, play a bit and then look at afterburner; it will show the gpu clock history in a nice graph

core affinity: start TF2, alt+tab, start task manager, right click hl2.exe, click set core affinity and play around with different values...

Pretty sure gpu doesnt limit the game at all, my 4770k with integrated graphics (before I installed nvidia drivers) still got like 100-200fps in a pub, so it shouldn't bottleneck it too much
