But twitch needs some proper competition. The speedrunning community is big enough it could literally just pick up and move, put all of speedrunslive onto a different site with subs and people would move. When you have a monopoly, of ANY kind in ANY thing, problems begin to grow, power is abused and things stagnate. Last time I mentioned how I missed own3d I got downfragged to shit, but seriously this is disgusting and makes me want to take my business elsewhere.

own3d was shit and needed to die, not only did it not pay streamers what they deserved but it also failed to scale and could not handle being a competitor to twitch

I could go on but you get the point. I'm not agreeing with what this fucklechuck of an "admin" is doing, but most people who are getting banned for changing their stream titles or whatever are being purposely inflammatory for attention.

I think that so far, hitbox.tv is a decent service. People have the idea that it's "own3d 2.0" and shun it outright, but I think that's unfair and premature, especially if people are looking for a functional Twitch alternative.
Yes, the CEO was the CFO of own3d, but he was only brought on after own3d had screwed itself over. He was hired to try to fix it, but they were already too far gone. It's not fair to blame him for own3d's failure.
People might be concerned about how hitbox.tv will handle their financials, and I think that's reasonable to be concerned about, even ignoring their history. But even unreliable financials won't affect normal everyday streamers. It will affect partners, and hitbox will need to prove they can pay partners in a timely manner, sure, so I don't recommend anyone rely on them for a livelihood yet. But most people just stream for free, and if hitbox fails for the same reasons own3d did, then it won't monetarily affect them.

They tried to establish themeselves as a competitor to twitch and basically made some really competitive contracts for several streamers to move there for a certain amount of time, then paid them months late or even never. As far as I'm aware most of the streamers who signed deals with own3d are still waiting for their money.
