I would totally play in CEVO. If I could still play.

I will however do one hell of a job at being a completely unavailable backup for a CEVO team.

Will there be a linux client / linux support for the league? This is important to my decisions in the near future.

Putting money where my mouth is; I'll be happy to sponsor a team in need for the first CEVO season.

Speaking of my mouth, I'm up for calling some matches for CEVO if there's room in the booth.

Seriously, let's fuckin do this.

I played a bit of CEVO CS:GO open this season, and the process was fairly well organized and easy to use. At least you can use your own server while still playing on client, that was a big plus for me.

I never played ESEA because of the crap they pull, but I would be fully committed to getting people into CEVO.

hookyBurnDLseanbud...LAN is how we actually get new players into TF2.The viewers won't notice the difference between ESEA LAN finals and CEVO online finals.

Also: by your logic, ETF2L doesn't exist, since EU TF2 doesn't have a LAN every season which means literally no one is playing.

For the last 2-3 years the NA tf2 scene has shit over the EU scene, and ESEA is the reason why. Since sponsors lost interest, EU has one LAN a year and if it weren't for the fact that yanks came then I don't even know if that would cut it anymore either. If we hadn't been so completely and utterly humiliated at i46 then I dare not think where our scene would be now. It's been 2 and a half years since top EU teams came together without international attendance, and since at i49 we got over the humiliation from the year before, the EU scene is now in a state where the best team can play 1 night a week (or less) and still be convincingly the best. Having a seasonal lan has pretty much safe guarded you up to this point from this sort of thing happened. Suppose this season had been the first there was no LAN, mixup would have fucked off and you would have IT shitting on everyone without breaking a sweat. I really don't know how you can say not having a LAN doesn't matter, when 1 of the 2 teams that keeps your scene interesting has openly said they would not be here without that LAN.

On a phone, sorry for awful typings.

A couple of features that ESEA has, live links to sourcetv, and live box scores I think are outstanding features as I enjoy watching other teams matches. I would be very hopeful whatever league the majority of the community plays in next season has these features.

I think cevo has full intentions of hosting LAN finals if we show them enough support. And like others have said, it would be better than the esea LAN because it wouldn't be held in a hotel lobby exclusively for the "elite" players.

What's wrong with ESEA's setup for LAN? I thought their setup was pretty good as the newer hotel is nice and the computer setups they provide aren't that bad either.

I really can't see why people who haven't been to LAN are bitching about LAN setups at all.

I agree, it'd be nice to see all of the division-finals take place at LAN, but you have to think about how much money they'd be competing for vs the cost of the trip there for each of them. If the prize pool is anything like ESEA, only the top 2 or 3 teams in Invite would really break even/gain anything.

Kissmeonly the top 2 or 3 teams in Invite would really break even/gain anything.

it has been said multiple times

lan isnt about gaining/breaking even (in a smaller game like tf2) as much as its about the experience of playing at the highest level on the most even field

it really bugs me how many people who say lan isnt necessary have never played 6v6 on lan

its literally a different game

Ya it wouldn't be about winning money it just be fun to play on LAN in a competitive setting.

I think the point of my post was missed.

I'm in no way bashing the idea of a LAN for all divisions, but how are you going to justify people in the lower divisions, all flying out there? Not everyone has money to spend on flying to LANs and they would not make that money back at all even if they won 1st in their division. Assuming all the Invite teams made back their money, even if they came in 4th, none of other teams of the other divisions would make back their money (12 teams (assuming there is open/IM/Main) * 6 people on each team = 72 people). You also run into scheduling problems with a lot more people and what if a few teams can't make the LAN?

My only thing, is what if the lower teams don't want to fly out to LAN because they have nothing to gain from it and/or some of their teammates are too young/can't afford it? I'm not trying to be a Debbie-downer, but that's a realistic problem and that's what I was trying to point out. Not everyone in the lower divisions have the intentions of going to LAN.

And m, I have played ESEA before.

Alfa - ESEA LAN is a good setup for the players, but it's not a LAN meant for spectators. Maybe the situation has changed with the newer hotel, but when I was there it felt kind of isolated and sterile. 15 people max watching over the players shoulders

I think CEVO might be leaning towards any LAN stuff taking place at already established events. Imagine PAX Prime/East, GXL, or an Intel LANFest with CEVO Finals taking place. The eXposure gained would be so good for the game.

It's not that ESEA's LAN (setup, etc., not really talking bout the concept of ESEA TF2 having LAN) is bad, I just think that there are more benefits to the scene to have LAN finals take place at established LANs where there are large crowds of players that are not actually playing in the finals.

Wouldn't being at LAN with more people be more enjoyable for the players attending? If CEVO did piggy back off of one of the big US LANs it could as extine suggested, create more exposure for the game. Not that i'm one of those "TF2 needs to grow" guys. I'd just like the comp scene to stay alive aslong as possible.

One thing that people haven't said is if the LAN is moved out of Dallas, it's likely the price of flights would be cheaper. Dallas has always been an expensive place to fly into.

Having a lan is an option that is being taken very seriously. Piggy backing into another event is nice especially if tf2 has let's say... a really big prizepot compared to the other games. It is also really important to work with other gaming communities to develop a relationship where a they would welcome a tf2 tourny... you only need 12 computers.

Interesting points, mason.

I've been to three LANs - but I never really felt a difference in play. Most people played like they did over the internet in terms of style and overall level of play.

Personally, I think what makes any LAN tournament special is the "overall environment" of the event. The event itself is almost as big as the games that are being played, and I think it's a great coming together moment for people that have spent a long time around each other in mumble.

I remember getting half of my buy-in money back at the end of GXL - but to be honest it wasn't the financial "award" that made me happy. The money was simply a marker of team achievement in a LAN tournament - I beat out someone else for this.

I think that players who can ascend to the pinnacle of the NA scene should have this kind of experience - provided that there is a legitimate plan to fund this event.

Is LAN is a "paid vacation"? Yes. Should the community have to pay out of the eyes for it? No. Do we need a LAN to keep the blood pumping? Yes.

I think the correct move is to reassess how an "invite LAN" is funded and ran - and not to remove the event altogether.

In case I'm not around to ask this question at the cevo meeting. Can someone bring up how the client, and the people who code it react to possible client breaking updates. I'd love to not have to miss or delay a weeks worth of matches while someone figures out how to make paladin work.
