Greetings!

I want to build a computer for under 500$ to replace my current computer(gateway DX4200-09 shit)

basically, all i need is something that doesn't give me 20 fps all the time. My main goal is to have somewhere over 100 fps constant, or above. CPU and RAM seem to be the most important to achieve fps. Can anyone give input into the critical parts of a computer system for the most fps at the cheapest cost?

thanks

You might check out this subreddit:

http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcforme

Check out other budget builds (specifically ones in your price range), or you could make a thread that uses the template on the right sub bar. This one on the front page might be a good thread to keep an eye out for.

Note that these are all amateur PC builders, so don't starting buying parts based on the first build suggestion you see.

Stimpackmaybe try waiting a week or so if any big christmas deals come up

this, and also post-christmas sales can be pretty good from what I've heard. I usually hear that black friday and cyber monday have the best sales, but you still can't go wrong with the holiday season.

RAM isn't a big factor in gaming, GPU is the nr.1 thing then comes the CPU and then everything else is just meh.

But for around 500$ you should be able to get:

CPU: AMD FX 4130
MOBO: ASROCK 970 PRO3(maybe)
HDD: Western Digital Blue 500GB
GPU: What I see, are R7 250's/7750's or maybe you can find like a 550ti from somewhere for this kind of build.
RAM: 4GB is enough really
CASE: throw all of it into some 30 buck metal structure :>
PSU: With those GPU's you wouldn't need more than 400 so like a 450W psu just for some headroom for later upgrades.

I can get this in EURO prices(360€~), I don't know how much the prices vary over seas.

Tf2 is actually CPU intensive.

source is primarily a cpu-intensive game, you can have a shitty gpu and a really good cpu and get pretty good results with any source game really. it's how games like half life 2 and tf2 have aged so well.

sorry then, most other games use quite a lot of GPU.

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 750K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($80.98 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI FM2-A75MA-P33 Micro ATX FM2 Motherboard ($54.99 @ Microcenter)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($84.79 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: MSI Radeon R7 260X 2GB Video Card ($131.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case ($49.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $492.70

Maybe something like this? I'm not too good with US prices though, but that will be able to max out TF2 easily, and will let you run many other games at good settings. I believe it also comes with a free game. :)
