Well I am tired of getting people mad because of my open mic. So I need help finding a cost efficient mic that won't break on me in a couple of weeks. (this has happened multiple times with mics I bought from an old website)
tranchemusic90$ - shure SM57
Lets make the price range 10-30 please?

@ #4 any of you guys been using that? I've met those dudes for beers a couple times in Portland. Very cool people. They're working hard on nailing down their neXt model.
breloommodmic
Seems interesting I may consider it. But still taking recommendations.

zalman clip on mic has amazing sound quality for the price.

I can confirm the zalman has really good audio for being like $7. The only problem is the small hum it seems to continuously play. If you use a PTT key (which for the sake of your team, you should anyway) it's not that noticeable. If you're doing a lot of skype calls and stuff though it might become kind of annoying. The clip is also fairly large, if you're using earbuds or something you might have trouble finding a comfortable spot to clip the mic on.

I've got the modmic 2.0. It's incredible. Sound quality is very close to a snowball for a lower cost and it isn't a desktop mic.

^ cool, that's good news. I passed along the sample they gave me to Airon, our sound guy. He was fairly impressed. Like I said, I know they're still getting some stuff together. Looked at their website after seeing this thread and they have a blog post up with good news.
If you already have a comfortable headset that puts out good sound, ModMic seems like a great option.

I think Slin used to use one a bit during and before his guild wars 2 days. When he switched to a snowball, I still didn't notice a difference between the two in sound quality.

The modmic sounds incredible when plugged into a soundcard. This is an example of when I had it plugged into my old Creative X-Fi Extreme Music: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5977077/modmic.wav
And this is an example of it plugged into my motherboard audio(my soundcard died): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5977077/modmic_onboard_audio.wav

Also, people need to realize that an expensive mix like the snowball won't sound nearly as good as it should(the modmic would most likely sound much better in a computer gaming scenario) unless the person speaking is really close to the snowball, i.e. leaning into it.

I kind of think it sounds worse because I hear the keyboard with the snowball but didn't with the modmic.

I also have a modmic and it is excellent. I love it, the sound quality is amazing. The only thing i thought needed improvement was the 3M sticky tape but other than that no complaints.
I'm going to put in another vote for the modmic. I had a zalman clip.. it's OK for the money but literally everyone commented on how much better my voice sounded when I switched to the modmic.
I ordered a modmic 2 months ago and they still don't have any in stock. :(
fix your mic and rig it up so it will never break again...

Recently had zalman cut out. Ordered 2 more for under $10. Original started working again.
Worth the $ easily.

yea. when i cast i lean up close but when i'm playing its not much different. however what most people don't notice is that the way i had the modmic configured (for whatever reason) it was super quiet, so i either had to have no boost and yell or boost it up +20 db and have a ton of white noise.
the nice part about the snowball is minimal white noise. the downside of the snowball is lack of desk space and the fact that if you want to lean in close you need a pop filter

zalman is good unless you have a really shitty soundcard. everyone noticed how differently I sounded when I got a new computer even though I was still using the same mic.
I got the Zalman and my teammates said it was great, sound quality is awesome

I have my boost at +30 and there's no white noise. Mine also has a windscreen which helps with pop.
