I have heard a variety of rumors regarding interp, such as the commands used to enter it don't actually enter it, that TF2 does all the interp changes you need depending on your ping.

Not being familiar with technology whatsoever, I was wondering if someone could really sort all these rumors out, as well as explain what interp does.

What do you have your interp set at, and how to you change it based on ping?

interp basically helps keep gameplay smooth when packet loss occurs, or when you receive an update or tick. It's important to have a good interp so that the game state is updated more frequently and more accurately, because you don't immediately receive updates since you're part of the client-side.
