Keyboard on Lap? "Russian Style"

I'm starting to play with my keyboard in my lap because it's too noisy on my microphone, and I'm wondering if anyone else out there who has been doing it for a while has any tips. One thing I'm noticing is that if I have good posture (sitting up), it makes my wrist hurt due to the angle. If I slouch "b4nny style" then it makes it much more comfortable but definitely hurts my back lol.

What have you found that works/doesn't work? Do you put your elbow on the desk? I'm very scared of both carpel tunnel and lower back problems :3

I have my elbow on my desk, but that works because I have an "L" shaped desk.

You want to find a position where your arms are supported so that your wrist isn't at an angle at all. Maybe find a small TV dinner tray and put that under your desk so that you can rest your keyboard and arm on that and then have your mouse on your desk.

see my right forearm. it is at a very natural angle and is not perpendicular to my chest. this made aiming feel VERY comfortable. one thing i noticed was that it made my left shoulder a bit uncomfortable at the beginning because my left arm had nothing to rest on whereas my right forearm was on the table.

i stopped doing this because typing with both hands got annoying and i was also playing a lot of starcraft.

"b4nny style"

i can't tell if he's actually bending his back or not but why the hell does he do this???

Apparently sitting b4nny style- with a straight back at a pretty low angle to the pelvis- is more healthy for the back.

when i first stared playing with keyboard on lap my hand started cramping and i realized it was because i was trying to rest my palm on my lap, like i would on a table. having my hand hover above the keyboard fixed that for me.

don't you get tired from holding your wrist up?

well i dont think i actually hold it up, just dont bend it down too hard. i just played a bit and noticed my palm does still touch my lap, so maybe I have just gotten used to it.

I started playing with the keyboard on my lap after watching quakecon and giving it a try. I usually have my whole arm on the desk because that feels the most comfortable to me.

watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfg_e6YG37U

pay attention to the muscles he says to engage while sitting at your desk as well as the external rotation concept

I will echo that the "russian style" (illustrated by pt's pic) really does seem to improve mouse control, but it makes typing a bitch, and, as far as carpal tunnel, in my experience the russian style is about the same for stressors on the wrists and includes an extra stressor on the elbow depending on how much shoulder you use to aim (mostly attributable to your sensitivity).
