Are you talking about the news thing on the main menu that tells you about the latest update or whatever? Also, why is so urgent that you need to know before you get "a new one"

Why is it so important that this is gone before you re-install windows? I don't understand.

And here's your answer: you can't. It used to close automatically if you closed it but Valve changed it so it automatically opens when you open the game. You can't hide the panels in the HUD files either, because you won't see the item notification panel otherwise.

Um, no that's wrong. See my TFTV hud. Or more specifically, the code for mainmenuoverride.res (Lines 392 to 844).

Moving those panels off the page doesn't mean the panels don't open. I'm pretty sure everybody's game opens the MOTD when the game is booted. There's no way around that anymore. You'll notice that when the MOTD is open, the button for item/game notifications isn't there unless you close the MOTD. You can't close the MOTD unless the MOTD is there to close.

However, if you've managed to find a way around that, I'd love to know it because it's not common knowledge as far as I'm aware.

Just ignore it, I fail to see how this is so annoying and that you need to hide it the second you get your new computer.

He says he has to disable it before he installs windows but that's not possible, so there may be some confusion about that he is talking about.

Do you have some kind of notification phobia? You should try launching your game and alt+tabbing out as soon as the notification pops up. Then alt+tab back in and stare at it for an entire second followed by alt+tabbing out again. Repeat this process until it becomes easier for you to look at the notification for a longer period of time. Your completely rational fear of notifications will be gone in no time. I believe in you brother.

Just move the strange lvl-up/ring/etc notifications and the votes into the bottom right corner, maybe also change transparency. You should still be able to notice it but it won´t distract you mid-pwning spree anymore.
