Make sure to practice strafing as it is an essential part of tf2. Just jump press a directional key and slowly move your mouse in the same direction. Also don't forget to let go of w as it will kill your strafe. This is useful when jumping as a scout so you can avoid incoming damage, but can also help with more advanced techniques like rocket or sticky jumping.
Once you learnt and practised strafing you can easily use it in game when playing scout. When you see an enemy jump over their head shoot them in the back and continue to strafe around them so they can't track you.
Another thing is once you become more advanced you might want to move out of pubs (normal public games) to thy mentioned before lobbies or centres (http://rc.tf2center.com/) as well as play some mge (1v1) or dm (instant re-spawns, no objective) a list of these servers as well as some other servers like bball or jump maps can be found here: http://teamfortress.tv/servers

Healing mechanics are very depthy and very few people fully understand how they work. But a few keyrules is that your medic is building his uber faster if you are injured. This is why you see scouts running boston basher in comp cause it allows scouts to injure themselves for the sake of getting their medics ubercharge faster.
Another cool feature is that if you are injured and havent taken any damage in the last 10 seconds or so, you will then be healed at a much higher rate than you normally would be. We call this "krit heals". But for as long as youre not playing 6's and just running around on pubs your main health resource is probably gonna be health packs. But its cool to know atleast.
