I've been discussing the idea of playing with a Pyro pocket in 6s as I believe the Pyro has good implications against soldier, demo and scout, but obviously there are both pros and cons:
+ Being able to reflect spam from the combo
+ Making space for pushes
+ limiting the enemy pocket to using a secondary
+ 90 damage flares and a stun against scouts
+ Wasting enemy uber
- Not being able to close gaps
- Slow to Mid
- Low damage output
With the detonator the Pyro can close gaps more easily which makes uber's/chasing slightly better at a risk of losing out on damage.
And with the powerjack being unbanned in UGC we can have the Pyro arrive at mid the same time as the pocket usually would.
I understand people want to practice against the norm but I don't feel like it's as bad as everyone makes it out to be, "stop wasting our time" and "stop trolling". We're deadly serious about playing with this composition and want to improve and see where this goes, and of-course if it doesn't work we'll just scrap the idea, but we're not even given the chance to play one full scrim.
In every other competitive game I've played the meta is constantly changing and people are adapting to new strategies. Although every 6's player I've talked to about this has seemed very close minded. We played 3 scrims tonight with a Pyro pocket, one of which the team destroyed us in the first round then left (which is understandable because we didn't know our skill level so we're just trying to place ourselves) and then the second and third the teams both left after about 5 minutes of playing.
Anyway, I'd just like to ask if there are any open-minded teams around the Mid-High open level who would like to play against us. I realise this thread is just going to get buried with -Frags but if anyone would legit like to play just hit me up on steam.

Didn't Crack Clan Yellow run Rabbit (I think it was him?) on pocket pyro for the majority of the season in open S15? You might be able to find some demos or something if you want to see some pros and cons if finding people to scrim against is difficult.

I dunno why people get so mad over pyro. Yeah it's really obnoxious and dumb but honestly not that hard to deal with if you have like half a brain and if you don't have the powerjack (which is banned in like anything not UGC I think) you're at a pretty big mobility disadvantage. I mean if a pyro is really fucking up your team you should probably start ubering in your scouts or something, not much a pyro can do against an invincible scout other than just blow him back a few feet while the scout can still just shoot him without having to worry about getting it blow back at him.
I think full time pyro is a pretty dumb thing to do, but teams that just rage quit out of scrims because someone is doing it are even dumber.

That was hooey and yeah it kinda worked because nobody really knows how to deal with pyros in open I guess and just get mad instead of actually doing something about it. lol

practicing teamwork, comms, pushes and adapting to new situations is such a waste of time.

you can do all of that without arbitrarily gimping yourself by running a utility that honestly cannot compete against scout/soldier

Yup! He has a looking thread as well.
I've got some crack clan yellow footage but hooey didn't go pyro as much at everyone thinks he did. Though he did do tons of work as pyro, made lange's stream chat & teammates get pissy about how unfair pyro is when we played against his pug team.

i think pyro can be a viable pocket if the skill is there and the team's comp is molded approprately around it. it provokes good thinking from the other team and encourages overall adaptation and not this narrow-minded thinking that most teams have haha

i think The Meta should Not be constrained to one specific lineup because that Promotes Bad Thinking, resulting in Unintelligent Players and harms Game Sense.
using a Pyro as a Pocket is not a Bad Idea and i think it is better for The Scene as a whole, Haha.
