What do you think is the best desktop microphone and earbud combination, and why? (Less than $200)
I've been using a Blue Snowball and Xaiomi Piston 2.0s (enigma's recommendation) for about a month now
I can't recommend the pistons enough, fantastic sound and build quality and extremely cheap for their quality
The Snowball is alright but with your budget, assuming you got the pistons, you could get a Blue Yeti which is definitely a better choice

i can sell you some buds for 35$ which is a steal.
Can vouch for the snowball. Not sure why you would prefer earbuds to full headphones especially for gaming.
I also picked up the Xiaomi Pistons on Enigma's recommendation.
Those things are freakin' amazing. The best headphones I've ever used, including full headphones.

Headphones are uncomfortable to wear for a long time, look bad (idk webcamming or something), and give headphone hair to some people.
Plus, earbuds can have just as great sound.

I made the switch to earbuds after my headphones were making my ears sore. I've never gone back. I hear everything, can pinpoint player locations in GO like a champ, and look sexy as hell without two cans strapped to the side of my head. Currently I use my iphone 5 earbuds and they work fantastic.
I use the Yetti as my mic. Thanks to Dashner, I now know how to use it properly putting an end to my nasely/echoey 16yr sounding old voice for a much more agreeable and smooth 17yr old sounding voice.

Just ordered them based on you & Twilits' opinions and a few reviews. :)

Exactly my point. Headphones/sets tend to become uncomfortable for me after long sessions of wearing them, unfortunately. I'll check out the Snowball/Yetti mics, thanks.

make sure you dont get knockoff pistons. Apparently those exist and will sound nothing like the real ones.

This is why I only own circumaural headphones (which sit around your ears), instead of the less comfortable (in my opinion) supra-aural style. Never had a comfort problem with them.

I've been wanting to go this way for a while because I want to get custom IEMs and want to be able to game with them. In my mind, I think something like this is the best way to go.

However most that I find don't have an output for a computer and are designed mostly to go into wireless packs. Instead I got crafty with a bit of craft wire and made a mount myself to fit my modmic in the same style.
Once I get proper IEMs (Probably not anytime soon, because they start at about 400 dollars, but they are the best type in ear that you can buy) I will go this path, probably trying to get a performer mic working. But yeah, modmic + arts and crafts could work.

If your headphones are less comfortable than jamming a pair of Apple buds into your ear you are trying some seriously shitty headphones. ):
I picked up a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770s at the end of last year on a friend's recommendation. They sound amazing, look damn cool (imo, tastes will vary) and are like a hug for your head. Seriously, I love wearing those things.

just bought a pair of Xaiomi Piston 2.0s after reading the reviews on it: http://www.head-fi.org/products/xiaomi-pistons-2-0-mk301/reviews/10468
incredibly cheap for the quality that people claim it offers. if you do purchase one though, make sure you buy from a legit site / distributer. If it's awfully cheap like under $10 then it's likely to be a fake.

legit site, although seems ghetto with bad english lol.
