I'm tired of getting shitty ping everywhere because of routing from Wowway. The only other high-speed option in town is U-Verse. Any good or am I doomed?

I have U-Verse and highest pings I ever get is 100 to east coast because I live in california. LA and San Jose servers are about 40 and 30 respectively. Texas is around 60 and chicago is about 75. If you don't have a problem with 80 - 90 ping on most east coast then u-verse is the way to go :/

40 down 10 up and the highest ping i get is from frankfurt servers where i pull like 150(only xonotic/ut2k4 servers that i find with players)

this is what I'm dealing with so you can relate this to my other post

also if you can only get speeds around mine, streaming might be a bit of a challenge (ok a lot of a challenge)
unless you want your stream to look like ggglygy's

I've had uverse in two different cities now, IMO it's great for TV but for internet it's not as stable as cable imo.

I had UVerse when I lived in Berkeley. I got 75 to San Francisco. I could have driven the data across the Bay and back in that amount of time (maybe not)

From Houston. There are random times where in some servers (usually in cali) my ping jumps 100+ but normally its alright.

Here is a streaming clip from my connection. Doesn't look too bad imo. Dependson what server you are on of course.

get a vpn and you can fix that. EarthVPN is $4/mo. I haven't had any issues with packet loss/lag with it.

How does that work exactly? I would have thought that would just cause more lag.

Creates a tunnel from your computer to the server, so traffic from your computer goes to the VPN server, then out to the internet. Can help with routing issues, unless the tunnel is routed through the same path as your traffic normally would.

uverse is fine for me but at&t has shit routing to every NFOserver.

thinking of getting a vpn JUST to play without 15% loss to nfo servers.

What pings are you seeing with your current ISP?

I live just outside of Indianapolis and I have U-verse since the only other option is Comcast, and they screwed my family over more than AT&T. AT&T has actually been pretty decent, few problems except with Youtube when everyone was having issues with it and Twitch from the beginning of the year to last month. I get 30-40 ping to Chicago, 50-70 to Dallas and the east coast, and 80-90 to the west coast, excluding terrible servers. It's pretty stable for me. IIRC, my sister who lives in Pennsylvania had a lot of issues with Comcast, and they can't switch because they live in an apartment. Only thing I'd look for are faster speeds for lower costs. AT&T's tiers are more expensive (at least initially), but my dad said they won't switch because of previous issues with Comcast.

tl;dr if your ping is unstable or you get shit speeds with your current provider, U-verse might be a better option

Hooky:

I ping around 90 or higher to everywhere but Texas right now. Texas is about 60-70. I'm just outside of Kansas City so geographically speaking I should be getting a lot lower all around. It used to just be Chicago servers, but its pretty much everything now. I've tried multiple times over a couple years to get my ISP to help me but they won't do anything. My speeds are fine (50 down, 6 up) but routing is terrible. It's better during the afternoon, but during peak hours I'm screwed.

I'll probably look into the vpn route and go from there. Thanks for the help, guys.

You can always check what your routing is with your ISP, some are cool with trying to fix that issue. Sometimes it's literally just switching where you go to first.
I had my isp (small, shit company) switch me to a relay a little south of me and got better ping from that.

Also, embrace it for now, you might ONLY have the option of comcast.

U-Verse is very stable in my experience mostly because their network is fiber until it hits your local node. The only bad thing about them is their routing isn't very great and connections are average at best. From Connecticut, I get ~65 ping to just Chicago servers and ~85 to Dallas. ~40 ping to New York servers and that's <2 hours away. Upload speeds are also limited because the connection from the local node to your home is through telephone lines essentially.

i've had comcast for just over a year and a half and haven't had any issues whatsoever. I pay for 50/10 and get anywhere between 80-100 download from ~10pm to 6ish am, no bandwidth cap, ect.

edit: i can't think of a single time I have been throttled, so that's a big plus too. unless you know from experience that they're bad in your area, i'd suggest giving them a shot. they were also equally as great for me when I lived in Florida years ago.
