it's just why put effort into an invite team who makes lan and just let it die? i think
if they tried they could be really successful

What schools are stultus applying to?
I'm curious.

stultus said he missed Georgetown's early action so clearly he's fairly hardcore

IN THAT CASE NYU IS PERFECT FOR STULTUS
IT'S SUPER HARD TO MAKE FRIENDS AND THERE'S NO ACTUAL 'HUB' FOR ANYTHING
also everything is slightly far away

Same with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Full of nerds and neckbeards. Hutch can verify.

Come on down to Purdue, where it's hard to make friends but super easy to get drunk/laid.
Go to the university of Chicago people study 50 hours a week for the whole semester then after finals get shit faced for a whole week straight.

Yeah by ugly girls. I'm a Lafayette lifer and a solid 98% of Purdue girls are disgusting.

i don't think chess club has taken more than a couple of rounds off the top 3 teams throughout the season, probably figure they'll get fourth place whether they practice or not so why bother?
also apparently real life is supposed to be important or something :?
also apparently real life is supposed to be important or something :?
Why waste the community's money if you're not going to at least put in some effort to be competitive at LAN?
just give the money to tagg so he can buy more hats
if none of them give a shit can't we like frankenstein a team from hwg, nNn, and tag to send to LAN so we don't have to finance a pointless endeavor

I can tell you that them being locked in 4th place was a big factor in them not trying very hard / wanting to go.
swiperWhy waste the community's money if you're not going to at least put in some effort to be competitive at LAN?
This isn't communism man, you voluntarily donated for them to go. If it's a waste to you then you should not have donated to them.

You don't have to finance a pointless endeavor, you don't have to pay for them to go. If you don't have the money to go to Dallas to play a video game for a weekend, you shouldn't EXPECT community money.

ok, whats the deal with "dream schools?"
i get there's a difference between Harvard and Kalamazoo Community College, but why do people apply to 15 different decent schools that all give the same piece of paper???
not trolling please respond???

I THINK I've got a pretty good explanation for this
A lot of it comes down to like where you went to high school, for example I went to school next to fucking Princeton, so expectations were a little bit high for a good chunk of us. basically the stuff that like emanated from the people who i knew and hung around with was that if you didn't get into a good school, "hurr ur worthless." like going to school around a bunch of ridiculously smart kids gave me an incredible inferiority complex that made me think NYU was a bad school for the longest time. Some people look to like getting into a college as the be-all-end-all of their being, and it's kind of a vindication that "ogm guise i did gud in hi skul". Plus there's this idea that like "I got into a good college and am going to get out of school with tens of thousands of dollars in debt but I'll get gud job", so there's that too.
In the end it's mostly societal constructs (this is a phrase i've used a lot in english papers this year) and what people expect from you like with your friend circles and whatnot. I seriously doubt that it really matters after college what your GPA was and all that, pretty sure what matters is "experience" and shit. [just guessing, etc]

If they are not going to lan and not going to provide you with a service or give you something back in return; then yes, you should get it back. That would be the right thing to do.

None of the invite teams have paid their way entirely this season, I don't know about ever, I wasn't here for a long time. Nobody has to pay for someone else, or play or watch TF2, but we want to, because it's good. We follow this LAN because it's exciting to watch the best of the best duke it out in close games and make amazing clutch plays and that sort of thing. I don't know if Chess Club can beat any of the three superteams, but I think that if eighty-three percent of them aren't practicing while the other eighteen people are working their asses off, then it is definitely a pointless endeavor. Maybe teams can't expect money, but support from the community is the norm for these kinds of things. I don't speak for the community, but if Chess Club doesn't give 120%, I think they're going to be cannon fodder, and that's not fun, not fun to play, not fun to watch, and I'm sure at least some will agree with me that it's not worth throwing money at.
I think my idea is implausible, and even if it happens, I don't know if they'll be able to dent the superteams with such a short window of time to practice.
But it would be worth, if nothing else, my money, because at least they'd try.

Ggglygy-snip-
The environment you are in is a huge difference, like University of Chicago's Grad school(booth) is one of the top business schools in the world, the students in there are all extremely brilliant, professors treat them differently compared to a school like University of Illinois. You'll get a better eduaction because most the teachers are actually Involved with real world macro economics, and the teachers actually care about helping students ALOT(mostly because the students most likely will be hired into some prestigious job).
There's other things like the people that are around, you, and how much they pressure you etc etc. I can't speak for Harvard, but at least from my own experience there are hardly any "top schools" that have stupid people in them(lazy is one thing, but actually lacking intelligence is another)
EDIT: Also net working, if you gather the greatest minds in your country into one school, and they start to form their little cliques you'll get at least a few very beneficial frienships.

i personally feel sorry for tagg, he's like the only active Chess Club player, and the only one who cares for the team.
also, i don't understand why they're getting all this money for LAN but not even practicing at all, despite people donating ALL this money for them to preform at LAN. and it looks like they could care less. (not including tag)
