hey yo,
so after playing roamer for like ~3-4 years, i'm trying to make the switch to pocket and i seem to be pretty bad at it. my dm is alright, but a lot of the time i either play aggressively and feel like i'm overextending or holding too far forward, or play more defensively and feel like i'm giving up ground for free/not in a position to push quick enough if we get a pick; i also feel like i'm not effective enough with ubers or realising what to focus during them (positioning, frags, bad-uber-fall-back etc)
gonna carry on practicing it, wondering if anyone else had similar problems? anything to focus on practicing during pcws or anything that helped you guys make the switch?

if your medic is cool with it/experienced enough just have him shout @ u if youre playing too passively or aggressively
meds generally can tell when their pocket is holding wrong, if youre too aggressive tell him to just drop you when it happens, so you learn the lesson in a more concrete way
otherwise just play a lot i guess and watch demos to catch the finer points of positioning that your team cant help with as much

One of the best ways to learn how to become a good pocket is to medic first. Because then you'll have a different perspective on the timings and that "leash" you're on, having to protect your medic. From the opposite side you'll see what you don't want a pocket to do while you're a medic then you can take that information and put it back into your own game to become a really sound pocket.

watch your demos
actively work on one thing each night for example: if you feel you're not being aggressive enough try to be more aggressive in general, then the next day you thought you were being too aggressive tone it back a bit. If you feel you're taking too many heals try and take less etc

Practice by scrimming often and pugging/lobbying.
Something I probably should've learned earlier was comming a lot; you are expected to be the main caller (other classes can main call but pocket is the easiest class to do so). Be confident in decisions as well if you're main calling. If the decision was a mistake, learn from it and try not to do it next time.

Great advice. Maybe he should also practice by playing MGE and DM a lot.

be a stream of information during ubers. realize that you have 300 hp with a RL and shotgun. think about what youre trying to get done during a given push/uber/whatever.
alternatively, get 300, hold w, and fuck shit up.

I cannot recommend Marxist's videos enough. They give you a great insight, and I'd def. recommend watching more of them, instead of just the two I've got pasted here. They're invaluable information.
Combine this information with stuff you learn from scrims and matches, and you should be well on the way to improving as pocket.
