I think it was actually the game from the night before - most of wood pig has aliases on ESEA that don't match up with the aliases they're most commonly known as. That makes it confusing to understand which players are which, and the aliases are often unwieldy to the point where they are difficult to use in play-by-play commentary.
I'm not really in the invite loop as much as I was as far as knowing who's who on what team.
It makes it really difficult to cast. Last night I tried to do play by play as a result of dummy pretty much flat out saying he wasn't going to do it. It gets insanely difficult when you don't recognize the player names or flat out can't read them because your HUD cuts them off after 15 characters and their tag+dumb long alias goes up to around 25.
Creates a situation where people get tongue tied trying to figure out whats going on.
"AND WE'RE GONNA SEE A NICE ROCKET FROM SEAGULL COMPLETELY SHUTTING DOWN CLOCKWORK"
flows a lot better than
"AND WE'RE GONNA SEE A NICE ROCKET FROM 420BIRDLOVERFROMWAX0 COMPLETELY SHUTTING DOWN CLOCKWORK"
it gets even harder when both names are dumb.
I hope I don't have to do play by play alone anymore since process isn't the most exciting map, and I'm not used to it, but the ability to do it would be much easier if players would just stop aliasing as dumb shit.

not sure why you think you're being cute here.
if you guys want to be casted in a manner that'll reflect positively on your team with coherent sentences coming out of a commentators mouth then you'll change your names to legitimate shit.
If you want myself or people to just be like fuck it, its not worth the headache, then keep acting like a 12 yr old.
You don't really gain anything by arguing my point or being cutely arrogant, it just hurts you because next time they ask me if I wanna cast woodpig I'll just say no and we'll be back to people only watching Froyo/mixup/xTs.
This doesn't fly in Dota, or CSGO, and shouldn't in TF2 either.

I would just only pov on players with legit names so the attention shores get 0 laughs about their idiotic names.

Sounds like you're describing a demo review.

pretty sure for i52 show matches the STV camera guys ran scripts that replaced player esea names with known aliases based on steam IDs, if they could make that the standard we could avoid all possible issues regarding aliases
getting the data from esea isnt hard, and its only 1 script to run to replace all the names for the entire match

I mean I could run client side plug-ins just to help myself and have to update it every roster change or the players could grow up and help everyone.
I don't control the camera anyway as I generally spec from medic 3rd person. Relying on the damage notices and info boxes is where this problem is stemming

Seriously why is it a big deal, players just use your actual handles for official matches, especially ones you know are going to be casted. The fact people need to install and use plugins just to get around you fucking off is a problem.

I think some people actually do it intentionally.

Player recognition is a very important thing to have. This is pretty much why most people only know about Mix/Froyo/XTS players at this point, if you want TF2 games to be remembered and notice change your names
Its also just flat out lame
Onto another topic
lemme cast some stuff
i need to practice for i52

I vote for tagg/ggglygy to cast Mangachu sux vs. Blockback Mountain for the peak of professionalism.

go ahead and rule that one out

Casting teams (commentators/cameramen) should be using these plugins anyway. They do more than just force aliases. It's really not that big of a deal.

im kind of split on this because on one hand, its not like tf2 is the only game that has professional players use different aliases (in dota, im pretty sure XBOCT aliased as Sasha Grey and other pornstars quite often in casts) so you cant just be like "if you dont use the right alias the game will not be taken seriously!" because there are WAY more reasons tf2 isnt taken seriously than because of aliases used.
however it is unfair to flame as he has been out of the loop for quite sometime now. you pretty much just gotta look at the rosters before a cast and figure out who is who before the match, unfortunately, you couldnt because you didnt know you were even going to cast a second match.
tl;dr - precautions could have been made, aliases wont kill the game, its not flame's fault though

I'm not like looking for sympathy or excuses for getting tongue tied.
I don't know why youre comparing them to NaVi or EG Dota players, players that are world renowned in the eSports scene and could literally make their names anything and people would know exactly who they were just by what hero/position they were playing.
I just think its an added waste of time to study rosters and ask who's who every match when it can be avoided by players playing as the name they want to be referred to as.
Next season dingo's gonna post a looking thread when he gets cut from wood pig, and people are gonna be like who the shit were you, oh "isthisbetterflame"?? and people will think hes even more mentally disabled than they already did.
its really not helping anyone

Using your actual alias to help out a caster is easier than that caster having to install a bunch of stuff and configure it. I don't see the difficulty in keeping your alias as the one everyone knows you by during casts.
point taken, but while players on wood pig might not be as well known as players on any team in DotA, this community IS far smaller and its much easier to track who is who without too much effort.
idk man i just like aliasing, i picked such a shitty one to use at first that i have fun changing mine up, ya know?

its not so much aliasing as it is aliasing to dumb shit you can't pronounce or easily read at a glance
sounds like u have something against richwhitemanomz
also make it clear im not singling out woodpig or dingo or anyone in particular. I think each team has at least 1 player guilty of a wtf name.
I'm just stating itd make my life and a lot of others easier as well as help your reputation/casting potential if youd standardize your names or make them quickly readable

jeez i was kidding
imo it's better to just have a .txt or something of what people go by
