Hi, I'm fuckmachine, (but I go by "toasty") and I've been a language enthusiast for many years. I have been fascinated with languages and other cultures all my life and have always wanted to be a polyglot of sorts, but I only have access to german through my school system and have fine tuned it over 3 or so years of practice with native speakers right here on steam
Since I have no money or really any way of going to a language school such as the Berlitz School, I have decided to seek the help of any polish speakers here on tf.tv
I am expecting to learn simply a level 1 understanding of polish by the time of the new year. I am free after school most of the time and if I actually have a coach I will make time for him/her on the week end. I would like if they were native polish speakers with a high understanding of english, but if you are an english speaker with a high understanding of polish that will work also
For the lessons, I envisioned basic conversations through either steam chat, skype, or any other form of communication, as long as i got to speak with you through oral or written conversation
DISCLAIMER: I have no way to pay you, other than very basic tf2 item donations here and there, I was hoping to get these lessons for free
So please, help me expand my understanding of this language and break the stereotype that americans can only speak one language

I would like to know why you picked polish? (also despite my polish flag, I am not a speaker just a 2nd generation pole)
edit: I ask because german and polish aren't very similar.

Shes from poland, she moved here when she was like 5(?) and she went into like super hardcore english immersion programs and forgot alot. her parents dont even speak it at home which is kinda depressing. I told her that i would learn polish because of my interest in languages, and reteach it to her

It'll be hard to find pole with a high understanding of english language :)
EDIT: Here's an American who learned polish himself as an adult: https://www.youtube.com/user/dsnopek

Good luck man, not only because this sounds like an American Pie movie, but because of your desire to learn a new skill. I wish I was as motivated as you to learn another language. Or knew a foreign girl hot enough to learn another language for.
I never imagined myself typing this on the internet, but you're the man fuckmachine. Good luck.

I could help you out if I had any time to spare. Teaching languages is a tough job, especially with polish. I hope you find what you are looking for though.

Rosetta stone should have Polish - I doubt it'd help much in the short term for actually learning the language, but it would definitely work out vocab and how the alphabet works. If you're in college you could acquire a copy from your library via loan most likely. If not there are other ways to acquire it (including buying copies or used copies, if that's your thing).
Another good strategy that's helped me in my quests to learn several languages has been finding TV shows, films, and etc in the language. I'm not at all familiar with Polish cinema or their music scene sadly :( But it'd be something to look into. Just watch or listen etc with subtitles (or a lyrics sheet) on and you'll eventually start picking things up as you go night after night.
A ha! http://www.filmgourmand.com/moviesdb/top-polish-movies/
You can also find dictionaries and learning books easily enough on abebooks and then acquire said books through your library if you're short on cash (or if you don't have one well, you can still look for the cheap ones ;) ).

I have been following 2 polyglots on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/user/laoshu505000 / https://www.youtube.com/user/irishpolyglot) who both have their own language teaching courses for teaching yourself at home. I was thinking about ordering one of their lessons and teaching myself, but the reason i have yet to actually look into buying one is because I have really benefited from speaking with and hearing native speakers. and rosetta stone is WAAAY to expensive for me. But what you said about watching media in other languages has honestly made my german way better than it is today and even now all i basically listen to is german music

I've been huge into German music for --- wow almost 20 years lol. I salute your tastes ;)
Rosetta stone is very expensive - but you can, on ebay and etc, often find used copies of "outdated" versions rather cheaply - and also most libraries will pass you the stuff on inter-library loan if need be. There's also you know... other means.
Another option, is find a university that teaches courses in Polish - e-mail the professor, tell them you'd like to learn Polish but wherever you are there aren't any good options to learn Polish. After a few days they should hit you up with *something*. I'm sure there have to be free websites that help with some stuff. That's how I went about learning Russian lol - just emailed a bunch of Russian language profs asking how a strapping young gent. like myself could learn Russian without it being offered nearby and without travel being an option. I got plenty of good recommendations and often free resources.

Thanks for the suggestion, I know for a fact that there are Italian and Dutch offered down at the community college I live near, but I don't know about polish. Do you speak german?

I can kinda read it - I mostly deal in historical documents which tend to use a different vocabulary than colloquial speech, but if I had enough time to look at something I could prolly figure it out - but not speak lol.

that's awesome, I have been trying to teach myself to read hebrew because I have an israeli friend who is determined to teach me hebrew. I though about contacting one of the polish translator guys from one of the steam groups or making a comment on the page to see if anyone could possible lend me a hand
