So I've been looking into getting a new ISP for a while now but I'm not sure which one I should switch to. Right now I have charter and it's not great but it's not what I'm looking for. I want some firsthand experience with what ISP's you think is the best. I'm not a super smart guy but I don't want to read some stupid stats that tell me Comcast and Time Warner Cable are the best out there. I typically get like 50-60 ping to server in my state that are around 2 hours away from where I'm living...I also get the same ping to Chicago. Charter internet also cuts off around anywhere from 8-12 PM randomly on some nights. Just wanted to see what you guys thought the best ISP is for decent streaming / gaming capabilities. Thanks for any help I get.
Avoid wave broadband like the plague. I've had charter and comcast in the past. Holy shit though, wave makes me see comcast as a savior.
ISP providers tend to vary in most areas, at least from what I have heard/experienced. I have Comcast and have had no problems but I know a lot of people who have had terrible experiences with them.
it's entirely dependent on what area you live in, check broadband reports; just for example, charter is terrible in most parts of the country, but where I live I never have issues with my internet dying w/them and I'm supposed to get like 30/4 for speeds and get 50 or 60/4 most of the time.
on the whole though verizon fios is probably going to be the most ~consistently~ good isp where it's available

I live in Virginia if that makes a difference if some ISPs have better regions etc.
Centurylink where I live is pretty consistent. The speeds usually stay the same throughout the day
verizon fios by a long shot, second best option in this area (nj/nyc) is optimum online (cablevision)

yeah i'm pretty sure those websites are less than reliable considering I live in the middle of nowhere and it says verison fios is available
I guess I've been pretty unlucky with Fios. From having two defective routers to random outages and then my ping spiking up and down randomly for a month or two and claiming they couldn't help or weren't responsible for it (they suggested we upgrade our speeds to see if that fixed it and what do you know it did) Verizon has been a headache. At least that's not happening to others.
Charter is fairly solid as long as your territory isn't notoriously trash at paying bills.
For me Charters pretty terrible. Randomly cuts out and I have 50-60 ping to my own state.
Charters good where I live except for the one time I need it to be good: at night
During the day, I get 20-30 mb/s no problem, can watch streams in high quality with no buffering, perfect
At night, the node I am on gets way more traffic then it can handle (which makes no sense because I live in the middle of FuckingNowhere, Nebraska), and shits itself. I dip down to under 5, which when you're paying out the ass for 30, that's kind of shitty even if their TOS do say they don't guarantee that bandwidth all the time

Comcast is pretty reliable and has good ping, but way overpriced for what you get. In addition, their customer service has no equal in terms of shittiness (except maybe Verizon).
I should add, while their download speeds are pretty good, their upload speeds are AWFUL. I would not recommend it for streaming for that reason alone.

safrixVerizon in Maryland is pretty good.
I have 40 down and 40 up. I get 40 ping to Chicago and 50 ping to dallas. I get like 12 ping to Virginia servers too.

I feel like fibre should give you better ping than that, though your speeds are pretty good.

Currently using charter, 30 down 6 up for $30 a month. Connectivity issues once a month. Pretty good overall. I upgraded from Verizon with 6 down and 1 up for $25 a month as well as a lot more internet issues.
Check out the listed rates and stay away from Comcast and ATT.

verizon is only good in Maryland if you live in an area with fios. Everyone I know around me who's had verizon has switched off to comcast while they wait for fios.
