WARHURYEAHFor EU we literally only have one event, I think for EU to carry on going we need more LAN events that give people a reason to keep playing the game as most teams only really keen it up at the start of the year.

If people are willing to pay to join a league then it may and i repeat MAY be possible for a LAN each year. Thats why ESEA can do it. Obviously it's easier said than done but it is possible to have an EU lan if you can get players to pay to join the league.

How would one change that? Is it even possible to elevate the status of comp. tf2 to DotA levels or sth? Maybe with more support from Valve?
You have to be a special kind of crazy to put enough time in to reach an invite level and not be sick of the game.

I love you mobo but I've played over 8k hours of this game and I still love it to bits

Just hard to imagine any real competition at all to Banny if Mixup dies or rather its core group of players. There is a reason why its been enigma vs banny for the past 5+ seasons. I'm sure there will be upcoming players, but as far as the top echelon of tf2 goes, it will get pretty dull if only Banny's team is left.

Too bad people are leaving to play mobo. Like if there was not enough gamers playing league of lesbians already.

There is so few nice fps competitive games left make me sad.

Quake? Counter strike, TF2? That's it? ( I don't even include fps with controllers cuz lol)

It's actually sad when Quake is starting to die and Counter Strike is a (competitively speaking) a very boring game.

It's hard not to be sad when there are games like COW A DOOTY (on fucking console as well) getting more recognition than tf2... when cod literally has nothing about gamesense and all of it is easy to acquire dm.

TF2 didn't deserve such a low recognition.

CSGO is incredibly popular. There have been large prize pots, and CSGO could see a International in a few years.

Is it boring though? I really enjoy watching it. At the very least it's a much easier game to understand and follow than TF2.

But no airshots so you're kind of right I guess.

well, the "optimal way to play" is to not move
i still enjoy playing it if only because it has its moments of brilliance, but without any interesting movement mechanics and the fact that you actually get PUNISHED for moving makes it pretty dry

Csgo is pretty clear and friendly from a spectator's point of view.

I remember when alec said that his family was watching tftv stream his match and it was just random people doing random shit and running around.

Played 1.6 competitively for ~2 years. Found dota in 2006, played that till 2009. Found TF2 in 2008 and re-discovered Quake(Quake Live) in 2010.

At no point have I looked back on my life and said "I wish I had continued playing DotA and CS and gotten better at them". I wish I had been introduced to arena shooters earlier, because soon after I found TF2, I realised that typical realistic FPS games were just too slow and tedious for me.

Terrorists have to move or the bomb will never get planted.

A lot of players play t-side by waiting for picks that never come because to a lot of players "waiting for picks" means camp one spot and wait for CTs to rush you, and it seldom works because CTs are too smart to rush you and give you free picks. Or they go in one at a time for a pick and stop when that person gets fucked and nobody follows to get the trade.

Or all 5 T's rush into a small chokepoint and get immediately gunned down because no one bothered to use a flash or smoke or pop a molly.

Peeker's advantage even encourages the quick peeking of corners since you can get a 1-tap with very little resistance.

Proper rotations are one of the most crucial skills on CT side.

I get that if you're on CT side and the Ts are afraid to push, it can get boring because they're waiting for you to rush them and that can be pretty lame, but it's not like that all the time, just when playing against people who don't know how to push. Same can be said about TF2.

There are a lot of reasons to not like CSGO but I can't say "being punished for moving" is one since movement is a big part of that game.

And yeah there aren't a lot of movement mechanics like bhop but it does have some trick jumps and airstrafing.

The difference in game-styles was pretty evident when I was spectating at ESEA lan. I'd look one direction to see TF2 and every player's monitor was always showing constant motion and jumping and shooting. Turn the other direction to CS:GO and every player's monitor was completely still 9 times out of 10. That's not even hyperbole, it's just what you see.

CS just isn't action packed in the slightest. It's a slow game and easy to see why a lot of people find it pretty dull. It's exciting in those small 10 second bursts where pretty much everything that decides a round happens though. It's super easy to follow as a spectator because there isn't much to follow.

WARHURYEAHFor EU we literally only have one event, I think for EU to carry on going we need more LAN events that give people a reason to keep playing the game as most teams only really keen it up at the start of the year.

I keep wondering if there is mileage in finding a LAN close to one of the hubs like Schiphol (which is also drivable for those that are not fans of flying) at the opposite side of the year to i-Series summer event. Even if we manage to get a relatively smaller than the general gaming of i-Series, maybe a 4 or 6 team invite event there. I guess "what is the prize" is the million dollar question, and there is the rub.
