I finally figured it out.
I figured out why all attacks in TF2 feel delayed and shitty.
snd_mixahead controls how delayed the sounds you hear ingame are.
It's set to 0.1 by default, which is 100ms.
Meaning that when you shoot, the sound plays 100ms later.
Most people can set snd_mixahead to 0.05 or 0.04 without it starting to glitch.
Shooting the scattergun actually feels really nice now. Try it out.
(if you can't notice a difference for whatever reason, try making a bind to toggle between 0.1 and 0.05, it'll become more apparent)

At first I didn't notice much of a change, but putting it back to 0.1 I don't know how I could have not noticed that delay. Awesome find.

i can set this to 0 and not have it glitch it but i'm not sure if it's doing anything

okay after playing for a bit my god this sounds amazing. youre a god
edit 2: it kind of feels like im playing on a local server with 0 ping. is it defaulted to .05 or 0 on a local server?

Great find! It's amazing people still find cool (and helpful) cvars even after all these years ;)

wait, how do you set it back to default?

I don't get it, is 0.5 supposed to be better or what. Because 0.1 is default and that is normal.

If your FPS goes down below 30 with snd_mixahead set to 0.05, everything gets garbled and shitty. So for people who like the sound on when they minimize, this could be a problem.

Does this affect all the weapons ?

just change engine_no_focus_sleep, I set mine to 20 or so
also the FPS for 0.05 is 20, just to be accurate
PyromancerDoes this affect all the weapons ?
better, it affects every single sound in the game. it's easier for people to time things based on sound than looks, so having low audio latency is important.

you probably either set it way too high or way too low (which just does the former)

I have. Now it's messed up even when I have 5 ping. So bad that pyros are setting me on fire when they are facing the other way.

that sounds like it's not a sound issue ether, which is all this command deals with. Are you sure you have a good ping on the servers you're playing on?

i wonder if there are more of those settings that we have no clue about and that can heavily influence your gameplay when set to the right values
i believe most people now just download one of chris's cfgs and go about their business, and it would be cool to know if there's anything that can be improved, or something that is missing from chris cfgs.

Well he stated himself that his configs are outdated, but finding someone that is willing to go through all cvars and has a lot of knowledge about source is really rare

So it seems on 0.04 and below it can get a little screwy for me at least. And any time it got screwy also had major frame drops with it. Probably gonna keep it at a number where there hasn't been a sound issue (for me, 0.05 seems to work perfectly)
Cool info though, thanks for the thread

probably a stupid question; but does this affect frames in any way?
