try enabling the aero mode thing in your video options, if its not enabled. or if its enabled, disable it
so if you start the game windowed and change to fullscreen the same thing happens? try fullscreen lower res
aero didnt do anything
launching windowed and switching to fullscreen worked but i cant launch in fullscreen

i can launch fullscreen 1280x720 and tab in and out just fine
thats kind of weird. whats in your launch options exactly?
-fullscreen or -w xxx -h xxx ?? try with or without those
edit: uhh hmmm. idk I mean make sure your resolution isnt higher than your desktop

-dxlevel 81 -refresh 144 -w 1920 -h 1080 -novid -console -useforcedmparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd -fullscreen -noborder
my res isnt higher than my native 1

take out -refresh 144 and -w and -h (only set them ingame) and -fullscreen
it will launch but it launches in 1280x720 and i have to change it every time
is it possible to change your resolution with a command?
maybe check your autoexec file

like 1 minute ago i was launching with wonderlands instructions of
wonderlandtake out -refresh 144
and the problem persisted
i then deleted my hud and it worked
then with default hud i put -refresh 144 back in and it didnt work
removed -refresh 144 and it worked again
added hud back without 144 and it works

ya i was going to say put your hud back and see if it works cause that made no fucking sense.
but then I was like whatever as long as its fixed lol.
im not too clear on the difference -freq and -refresh and which works in this game etc btw ;o
but you probably don't need it, it will just use desktop settings

Booopwonderlandalso do not use -no3d9exwhy not? it fixed my mumble problem. http://teamfortress.tv/thread/4956/mumble-overlay-problem
take that out, the mumble issue should be gone, that command blows
dingo-dxlevel 81 -refresh 144 -w 1920 -h 1080 -novid -console -useforcedmparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd -fullscreen -noborder
my res isnt higher than my native 1
everything but -novid, -console is useless there, just put -dxlevel, and fullscreen, noborder (these last 2 if needed) in the autoexec file, just let -novid and -console, in the launch options if you like

try to disable steam cloud sync in tf2 properties, then launch the game, change the resolution, and write host_writeconfig in console, once done, try to restart tf2 and see if it works, if it doesn't we'll find another way
