I really miss the round timer being on the hud (non-existant since valve added map time). It serves no purpose usually but with the way cameramen switch pov on rollout (for good reasons), it's really useful for working out how fast demos/roamers are getting to mid.
Not sure about anyone else, but

MOOSE_Quick question, what interp/interpratio is used for tf.tv streams?
I think it depends on the league. ETF2L is done at 100 ms I believe, but I've seen as high as 500 ms for ESEA because of the lack of server / STV quality control. It makes rocket jumping look really weird but is necessary for smooth model movement. Don't know about CEVO.

Seen this opinion elsewhere but I don't think it would be very easy to make it possible to show multiple map scores which is quite important for EU streams

DavidTheWinmi would like to watch whoever is getting ubered in first person pretty much 100% of the time
Would you rather watch the pocket being ubered if I could show you the roamer hitting a double airshot or a scout coming in on the cleanup for a 3k or something along those lines? Similarly, say the casters are talking about the demo on mid but I can see the roamer is going to go huge, would you rather miss the roamer going huge to have the player the casters are talking about on camera?
Genuine question, it's something that's conflicted me for a little while. Currently I go for show all the cool shit and it seems to go down well in general, but there's still a part of me that thinks people might prefer seeing the general flow of an uber or watching the player the casters are talking about. However, when I see that happen and the sniper hits a headshot I've seen complaints about the camera guy. Can't win I guess?
Any opinions welcome.
Roamer airshots and scout 3ks all the way. I much prefer being able to see something cool happening even if the casters miss it than to just have to work it out from the kill feed. I kind of feel like that at least one of the casters should somehow be watching the same povs as the camera guy, probably not possible to sync that though which is a pity.

I can't speak for other folks who cast, but if I'm not doing the camera (say any situation where it's not just me slapping some shit together for my YT channel) I never once go into 1st person mode - I'm always way up in the sky or at least focused on a particular, relatively small area. So, you're basically bound - especially if it's stuff on the flank - to end up with caster-camera desync, because your best bet, as a caster, is to watch the pocket because they'll be getting the uber or at least the majority of the heals 90% of the time. You could maybe work out a relationship where two casters are going, where one guy watches the flank and one watches the combo, but in the majority of games that would cause a bit of chaos if two particularly important things happen at once, and also likely murder the caster who is stuck on combo duty, because 1/2 the time the flank won't do anything productive in the early phases of a push (if there is even a flank to speak of).
I'm happy with where it is that the camera occasionally captures neat stuff happening that the casters totally miss.

I always wondered if it was because I wasn't such a new player anymore and had some semblance of the game, but whenever I watch a cast, it just feels more watered down these days. There's always moments where the cameraman catches the cool moment (either through the advanced feed or through intuition) and we're stuck with one caster taking a breath because they noticed the med drop, etc, and the other caster continuing their talk for a good 30 seconds.
I get that everyone's doing this through volunteering, free time, etc, but I just don't think everyone will ever be 100% okay with a HUD. Everyone has preferences and that's why there's so many HUD choices out there. Fix the fundamental issue of casters, don't worry about the little things until afterwards.

More of a caster role thing. I'm not sure if this is being done already, otherwise I haven't been paying enough attention but I like having one caster who focuses on play-by-play commentary and another doing the analytical stuff so you not only know what is happening but also why it is happening (or has happened). Both casters doing play-by-play gets redundant and both doing analysis (all the time) gets boring (generally speaking).
DavidTheWinloljkI actually really like being able to see an aggregate of the team's total health. It makes understanding the tide of a mid fight/ non v non engagement, where there haven't been many picks yet, much easier.
we used this at i52, I personally thought it was too cluttered, but if there's enough requests for it it can be added back in.
I would like to see this added as well. It helps to see which team plays the heals/buffs better than the other.
Fixed player aliases and player outlines are a must have. But I think the current tftv setup is pretty neat!

Casters with a personality, and game knowledge is pretty huge.
Would be interesting to see more third person cams, and possibly have 2 cameras and have 1 of them in like the top right with a view on a different player.

I want to see as many players on the screen at once. The only exception is when someone's going for a backcap.

camera and cast in sync. for example, ive seen casters discuss the impact of someone offclassing to spy while said spy was already spotted & on his way back to spawn...
HI! As an avid watcher of the casts I appreciate this thread.
Map scores: having the previous maps, along with the current score in the top right in a small box is
what I'd like to see. Keeps people asking for the score of the previous match in chat being trolled etc. Also remember to hud_realoadscheme when the map timer freezes.
Meidibeam: as long as statusspec isn't broken that should always be used, in the way David posted above.
Overral team HP: Not something I find valuable, a seconds glance at the players health on the left is enough for me.
Individual player HP: ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY, I remember seeing it with numbers instead of the bar commonly used and I gotta say I prefer the bars. Having the name of the player there too is unnecessary.
Outlines: for players, without a doubt, it's a great feature. Having it for stickies is also good, seeing a trap or a randomly strewn sticky is something I appreciate.
Overlays: The way it is now, with the overlay at the start, end and between rounds is perfect. It shows, who are playing, who the crew is and wheteher it's over or starting soon. Adding a !casters bot command to chat could be useful in case someone has troubles seeing the full title(watching on mobile). Facecam for casters is not something that I find necessary, but I have nothing against it being implemented.
Fixed names: Yes, seeing who someone actually is is great. Props to ETF2L for implementing it as a rule for prem.
Logos: I hope this is kept to a minimum, add it to the overlay between games. I hope we never have to see sponsor logos superimposed on the map as was the case at GXL. Or on player models, welp.
Bird's eye view: Having this for the start of a mid is something I like, seeing where a team goes after a valley rollout on badlands etc and then jumping in to the 1st person view is good. And when a caster says they'll watch X person at mid, follow that person at least initially.
HUD: the tftv hud is splendid.
Camerawork: seeing the massive airshots or the uberpush, I couldn't tell ya. I think in this case the camerman has to make a judgement call. As long as we're not watching a spy sneaking about while a ppush is going on. When it comes to spies and snipers, it's always a bit exciting to see whether or not the uberdropping headshot before a last push will come in or not, so even if the caster knows the outcome-sniper missed shots for 2 minutes- try to keep it on the sniper.
Mumblecoms: whenever this is possible go for it, great insight into the teams flow and gives the casters a break and the viewers a break from the casters.
Casting: I like the idea of a play-by-play/hype caster and a more analytical follow up from the other, Sideshow and Mike did this really well together. Having two casters who are inexperienced is never a good idea. I think most of the casters casting ETF2L atm are really good.
That's all I could think of atm. Also KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!! Being part of such a small community that shows this level of care is a great thing.
P.S. Sideshow to dethrone Admirable as caster of the season.

Why? I thought the integration was quite cool, particularly in the case of the Corsair logo with the transparent background. The TFTV logo in colour was a bit distracting perhaps, but the overall idea is a good one when used subtly.

this is a super big stretch but i was looking for a thread to put this in and i forget if i had already mentioned it ages ago
during ti4 dota2 had a 'noob stream' which helped people unfamiliar with the game/very new to understand whats going on, and how the game was played, while still enjoying the lan and all the excitement of sorts.
overall if tf2 could get a caster with some decent experience who could tell people exactly whats going on and run a noob stream that would be a good way to get more people into the game
i don't know
and yes this is a casting preference topic and its in the wrong place
anyway something 2 consider i guess

Bring back the old eXtv style team uniforms for casts. That would be sick.

The uniforms looked cool, but I found them incredibly distracting when trying to watch those casts.

I really like seeing ubercharge percent and name (Kritz/Uber), as well as map time left - those are just things I don't remember seeing 100% of the time that I feel are useful and minimally "invasive"
WARHURYEAHFor the love of god please use a birds eye view of mid fights, you don't really get a sense of what's happening on mids when you just see one persons POV.
Birds eye and third person in general for FPS games is really fucking boring to me. It's like if you just brought up the map in the middle of the screen while there was action in CSGO.
Yes, it does give the most information for midfights - but midfights are where half the action takes place and watching them all from a birds eye would be incredibly boring. It's more suited to demo reviews than it is for watching the game for spectators. I might be alone on that opinion, though.

While I personally would prefer say team logos or something similar, adding sponsor logos into the game is a big thing we can do for sponsors and lord knows we need more sponsors so I can see this trend continuing.

I just really want to mention how awesome the mumble feature is for casts. Just hanging out in the twitch chat, almost every single time it goes to mumble there's some new funny call or something that's spammed in chat for like a minute. That's the type of stuff that makes people want to come back to streams.

I actually really like seeing overall team health. Like loljk said, it shows the tide of the fight before picks start coming in. eXtv tried doing that for some matches, and it was great. It wasn't intrusive at all, nor did it take up any viewing space.
ToodlesAlso remember to hud_realoadscheme when the map timer freezes.
This will never actually work. I have a theory for why there's an issue (something related to client tick count not being in sync with server tick count), but I'm a long way from finding a good fix.

I can say that the functionality to make this work (even with ESEA half-time switches) exists, but it wasn't done in time for use at GXL. The main barrier to actually adopting this would be the lack of tastefully designed skins for each team.

Would it be preferable to have the two separate health bars for each team (seen in Spec Tools and IIRC some eXtv casts) or having just one shared bar (similar to the equipment value display in CS:GO)?

I always thought it would be cool if for big events (grand finals/LANs with production on the scale of i49/i52/GXL) there was a second stream with alternate camera focusing mainly on third person. Third person is the sort of thing that's really nice to have but never worth missing POVs for. I would multi-twitch that shit all day.

It's an interesting idea but the main blocker is man power. At i52 we could have done this, but I'm much happier with how stream 2 (props to atmo) turned out because we got an insane amount more overall coverage of games because of stream 2. At any future event, it will be more likely that we can get more out of a second casting stream than a third person POV stream, and at some events even if we had the 3 stream manpower I still think having as many casting streams as possible is better. Even if the third stream covers the same things as stream 1 but is the noob friendly stream I'd rather that over a third person stream.
Maybe if we had the potential for 4 streams (but then stream 1 + stream 1 noob + stream 2 + stream 2 noob) it would make more sense than having another casting stream, but we're a long way off having 3 simultaneous streams let alone 4.
