Nah, sadly i can't get a constant 240 fps with this setup, even fps_max doesn't seems to work. And 240 fps is what im looking for.

u can buy i7 3770k 329 usd or xeon 1230v2 224 usd. both cpus are the same only difference xeon deosnt have integrated gpu and u cant overclock it.
i have the xeon cpu myself with can stream 1080 60fps just fine.

I don't think its possible to find a setup which would get you 240 fps in every situation (eg 6v6 mid fights). Are you using some kind of fps cfg because I have pretty much similar setup and i get above 160 on mids and 200+ everywhere else.
Also you can try limiting your fps at 120, though you're going to have some input lag, but there are people who never notice that.

It is possible to overclock your cpu (i5 2500) but it goes to a certain limit because it isnt an K version of the cpu. In the BIOS you can put the multiplier up to 38x Which makes your CPU run at 3,8 Ghz. You can try running that a few days and see how it performs and then consider an upgrade to your excisting system wether it is the GPU or the CPU.

GPU is fine, even onboard is enough for TF2

TF2 loves high clockrates -> overclocking. Neither your CPU nor your mobo can do that.

If you're lucky you might be able to find a used 2500K/2550K/2600K/2700K + mobo for 200-250€, but that's about it. Anything else isn't going to be an upgrade or will be even more expensive.

E3 1230 and 1230 v2 should be compatible, depending on how fucked up TF2 is for you, you'll get either 0%, ~30% or ~100% more fps.

Check the socket type of your motherboard and compare it with the socket type of the Xeon. If they match, the CPU is compatible with your motherboard.

Honestly though, I'm not sure if spending money now is the right move. Is the slight FPS you gain from upgrading your CPU worth the money? If you think so, you're welcome to try, but I feel building an entirely new system when Windows 10 launches is the safer bet. Your current CPU is not that much far off the Xeon 1230v3 in bechmarks.

On top of this, if you really want to get the most FPS possible, you're going to want to overclock, which means investing in a good CPU fan and perhaps spending a little time learning how to do so without damaging your computer.

i completely disagree with rigel, sandy bridge to ivy bridge is a big upgrade considering ive had the same cpu as u had before and i noticed the big fps improvement when i went with ivy bridge generation aswell with no lag when i was streamign 1080p and aswell less time when rendering frag videos back when i made clips for extv
with my xeon 1230v2 i get like consistently 310 fps in 6s matches although with chris config highframes using 1920x1080 resolution

I looked at the same benchmarks as you and recognized the difference between the two, however from what the OP was saying, he would like a constant 240+ FPS, and he wasn't getting that at the moment even with the low resolution he's currently using, which led me to believe the roughly 30% better score wouldn't result in his desired state.

If you had the exact hardware he did, then the OP should have the ability to get what he wants.

Your setup should be more than enough for 120hz most of the time, but I have about the same specs (i5 2500k, R9 270x) and it'll get below 240 fps in pubs and highlander midfights.

I'd also recommend an SSD if you don't like waiting for your computer to do things.

u have 120hz monitor then u just need 120 fps ingame to enjoy the full extent of what the monitor has to offer

i'd say get a new gpu because the 460 sucks balls now-a-days. the 2500k is still a great cpu so i don't think that's your problem. and if anything pick up a good cooler and over clock it

he doesnt own k, just 2500 which cant be overclocked and his motherboard doesnt support overclocking aswell
