Ond_kajaIt's kinda sad that people actually believe that the survival of American TF2 apparently depends on paying (read: donating) money to a crooked company like ESEA who seemingly do everything in their power to fuck up their customers. In return we get three LANs a year with only four teams, which are mostly just boring turtlefests where nothing interesting happens for an hour per map, while the same people win the prizes season after season. Lol, TF2 won't die just because ESEA stops supporting it because in the end only a few people are truly in it for the money.
i dont think you get it

meh really stupid and shortsighted to make this decision during holidays when no one is scrimming or has any idea what roster they're going to have for next season, us included

This is literally the stupidest thing I've ever read on tftv. Actually stupider than when you mined bit coins. Stupider than the dragon dildo thread. It's that stupid. Yup.
To start,
ESEA-ShooterWe had about a month of downtime (if not more).
This seems almost ignorant.
- The time between LAN and this new (closer and stupider) cut off date is less than a month, not more. (LAN ended December 7, cutoff for determining divisions now the 5th.
- Even if it weren't, a bunch of teams (see: nearly all of them) take a week break after LAN. It's a time where a lot of players (including those that didn't go to lan) take a little break.
- Even if THAT weren't a thing, Christmas is a thing. Hanukkah and kwanzaa are things. I'm visiting family right now (just like a lot of other people). It's hard to account for 6 people and have them all pay up during the holiday season, especially if you aren't scrimming regularly.
- Even if THAT weren't a thing, people are now not wanting to pay in for fear of playing in a single shitty division rather than 3 decent ones.
This could simply be what people want
No one wants this. You're doing this as a scare-tactic to get people paid up. You aren't fooling anyone. If this is how you legitimately feel, then I'm actually terrified of the fact that you're in charge of anything. You guys did yourselves a big blow a year ago with the bitcoin/ CEVO fiasco. Not only should it have never happened, but the way ESEA handled it was laughable at best. This isn't how you get the business back from the CEVO players that can't play there anymore.
Literally so many stupid decisions that it hurts to read and know that this is the best organization for NA TF2.
I paid up in ESEA earlier today, I've been working on getting a roster together to play with in open. This makes it incredibly difficult for me as a leader, as people are now questioning whether or not they want to play in ESEA because of this. So now I have to work on my roster more, and I have less time to do it. Literally no sense.

My teammates and I didnt all join an open roster just to end up not paying... its so stupid to make a paying up deadline days before the actual deadline lol
Dont worry esea, you'll get your money when everyone gets back from the holidays

yeah this would've never happened if ESEA didn't push lan back to a later date due to CSGO but it had to happen with other events being the issue. obviously a tough spot to be in
so i know where shooter is coming from he's right with the month of down time if your team didn't make playoffs that is...thats true but the fact of the matter is the registration deadline is smack on winter break and a lot of people are traveling for the holidays.
so why is ESEA going into nazi mode with paying up? basically this would've been easily avoided if lan wasn't pushed back...then people would have time to pay up before the holidays started. in short we're being punished for ESEA's actions what a shocker. i asked 3 days ago if the upper divisions would be gutted and everyone would be in open i'm not surprised in the least that it came up now

you guys are not going to push the season back and not only are we facing competitive tf2 being diluted but also its the time where not many teams sign up. Its a bad time to be doing this shit.

It's either support ESEA, a league that seems to have at least some interest in TF2 6s, support one that has traditionally heavily favored HL over 6s, or support one that isn't even for our damn continent. And making a new league would just create more problems. You think I'm wrong about that? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we just have a league that supported us for a whole year and gave us another set of LAN finals as well as our own version of the i-Series LANs, but never gained much traction and ended up dropping TF2 a month ago?
Also, pay to play generates better competition, since there's more risk. In ESEA, you automatically lose your premium/league fee money if you drop out; in free leagues, nothing happens. You have just as much money as before. League fees keep competition up towards the higher ends of each division.

I don't understand why esea would not extend the deadline. There are a crapton of unpaid/unsigned up teams that want to give esea money, and the community seems to be in agreement that teams will be finalized after the new year. How is an extension not mutually beneficial?

Normally, you would pay to play in a P2P league because of the quality of servers, organisation, customer service, cheat free environment etc. This is what you should get when you pay up. You get value out of paying other than the mere possibility of winning more money. There's nothing wrong with pay to play.
However, when I played in the only season where ESEA operated in Europe, everything was basically a trainwreck and it was all ESEA's fault. I've NEVER played in such a disorganised league, and I've played in many free leagues. Three weeks delay of the season, servers weren't working when the season finally started, when the server issue was fixed there were no server available suddenly, ESEA doesn't give a fuck and forces us to play four officials in one week, and then the BTC scandal happens again. The competition was non-existant because nobody bothered to play four matches a weeks and would rather fold (because the league was at this point a joke, there was no reason to not drop once you weren't able to reach play-offs anymore). Meanwhile the ESEA staff posted dumb shit on TFTV to everyone who complained, it really showed that they don't really give a fuck about TF2.
So yeah, I basically paid them to fuck me up in as many ways as they possibly could think of. It still gives me a headache thinking about this, which is why I think they are fucking crooks.

if u haven't realized every start up for a league is fucking terrible and the only reason to play it is if there's nothing else
expanding to euroland was stupid because they have a really good league and there wasn't a niche for ESEA to fill
comparatively ESEA is the best league in the US and UGC is such fucking dogshit that even if ESEA was dead I doubt many people would switch to it
maybe we can get ETF2L to switch to ITF2L or something and have a good 6s league but whatv

ya see the thing is that tf2 isnt some hot new game that every league is scrambling to cater to. esea is the ONLY company that offers tf2 players a consistent lan

@ond_kaja you're seriously preaching to the choir man, NA tf2 players are well aware of the issues with ESEA, it's been our premier league for years and years now. whether you play cs or tf2 ESEA is the highest form of competition we have. it has it's ups and downs but we deal with all the BS either way

This wasn't start-up problems though, since ESEA in NA had exactly the same problems, minus teams folding because they don't have time to play four matches in one week while still playing in ETF2L. It was pure neglect from ESEA to not have TF2 servers ready when the season started, despite it being delayed for three weeks.
ESEA could've gone somewhere because the sign-up numbers weren't that bad for a first season, but I'm convinced they fucked it up massively.

I mean starting up new servers and getting them set up sounds like a start up problem, same with the poor scheduling
regardless, ESEA sucks dick, and when it dies everyone is gonna either have to move to UGC or make a new league, neither of which will be fun w/o a real lan behind them

What's even more confusing about this little argumoent is that you're comparing NA esea to the one short-term experience you had with ESEA when they tried moving into Europe
I just seriously do not see the connection at all whatsoever and every single keystroke you've made has gone utterly to waste because at this point the services might as well not have even been from the same company

I'm sure a lot of people would be happy if there were a pay to play league that was perfect. Unfortunately there isn't and every league so far in tf2 has its ups and downs, so hesitate saying that ESEA is shit, when it really isn't its just they are starting to let go of tf2 because everyone sees competitive tf2 as a joke when it could be one of the funnest 420 gamer experiences that you ever have.

lol most of the problems i mentioned weren't even exclusive to europe. you are ignorant if you deny the bitcoin mining, server problems, client problems, late seasons etc. keep in mind that the value you get from participating in ESEA (grand prizes, being able to go to LAN) is far better than pretty much anyone below top4 team invite.

lol most of the problems i mentioned weren't even exclusive to europe. you are ignorant if you deny the bitcoin mining, server problems, client problems, late seasons etc. keep in mind that the value you get from participating in ESEA (grand prizes, being able to go to LAN) is far better than pretty much anyone below top4 team invite.
holy shit we know this already

A bunch of teams are still getting roster things situated from the end of last season and arn't payed up because they just lack 6 or because of Christmas/Kwanzaa/Hanukkah/new years which are normally when people spend time with their family and have down time from games. Scaring people with "WE'LL PUT YOU IN ONE DIV" doesn't work because then people just won't pay in fear of it. In all honesty no ones going to want to play one div TF2. TF2 teams will step up like always you just have to push back the deadline like every other season.

It seems a little shortsighted to just make a decision without input from much of the TF2 community involved. Maybe a little more community feedback could go a long way to helping out improvement of the quality of this league.

People don't pay up because of the monetary value of participating in ESEA. People pay up because they want to participate in an organized league where competition is high and where people take the games seriously. I've never had an ESEA match where the opposing team just straight up didn't show up, but in UGC or Cevo, every game was either just people off-classing or the opposing team not showing up.
You don't seem to understand that if ESEA dies this season, North America 6s is dead. There isn't anyway to sugarcoat it, competitive 6s WILL DIE if ESEA stops supporting it. Some people will take UGC seriously but the vast majority will leave 6s if they don't have the same level of competition that ESEA matches bring.

Some people live in Uni res like me. I had to go home for christmas without my computer, ive been gone for 3 weeks since exams. It's a little hard to do tryout scrims when you really cant play, and I've had my co-leader have to run all the tryouts, not really how I envisioned my first ESEA team, and I can imagine a lot of people wouldn't be willing to do tryouts without playing. I'm not surprised by a lack of teams paid up.
Either way, im sitting here waiting for paypal to clear.
