I'm not going to continue beating the dead horse of how illegal this is, but once Valve gets a whiff of it, they will issue takedown notices of this project.
This is neither "open source" nor a "fan edit" nor "reverse engineering". This is tweaking a base of stolen IP.

Yeah that's about why. Too many trolls here. I'd rather post somewhere free of trolls, and Facepunch is that somewhere.

Too many trolls? Sorry, but that's absolutely laughable.
Regardless, I'm locking this because I have to agree with MasterKuni, this is definitely not "open source" as you would traditionally think, this is definitely along the lines of stolen IP.

going off of 2 things:
1. MasterKuni is right*
2. being a programmer in training, starting over from 7 years of work is literally insanity. the amount of time you'd have to spend on this to make it at least comparable to the mechanics of today's TF2 without all the nonsense of valve's weird weapons will take you a long time.
*= to be honest though, how much will valve care if it's a small sect of the community, when it's essentially bootleg TF2? how often have game companies cracked down on that?
that's just theorycrafting though, and the insane part of me wants to say that you should go along with this just to see how much valve really does care. but i'm gonna stay out of this. Best of luck, and i hope you don't go to jail.
