Saw this: http://iamnotaprogrammer.com/Ikea-Standing-desk-for-22-dollars.html a while back and was wondering if anyone's tried it or something similar before? I game/do schoolwork sitting at my desk for a long time every day. Only thing I'm worried about is I have 2 monitors and my computer behind them so that I can plug my earbuds into the back ports. idc how it looks as long as it works.
I built one a little over a month ago. Went off of this design. I went ahead and got wooden tabletops instead of the plastic ones. I made the gap between tabletops a little larger than in that article, and I ended up not liking how high the second desk was when using the lower one for mouse/keyboard. I just put my mouse & keyboard on the top desk and use the lower desk as a shelf. I also got a mount for my monitor.

Last I checked it's also unhealthy to stand still too much, make sure to get your five minute sits in!

this is my current setup, don't know how I can have all 3 elevated at the same time, maybe having a small table on top that my computer can go behind with the two monitors on top of the higher table? http://i.imgur.com/EzLQNAe.jpg

It's basically unhealthy to be doing either sitting or standing for extended periods. Standing gets you varicose veins, sitting ruins your back and neck(usually)

Sitting's worst for your legs imo, people've seen screw up their back and neck from sitting use unhealthy postures or stay in one position too long.
i dont understand how this works as a thing, i am in pain if im standing still for like any extended period of time
Apparently there's a period of 2 weeks where you're uncomfortable and you should buy a mat to stand on as well

You probably just get used to it after a few weeks. Worst case scenario you start gaming less and are forced to do other things.
TLR your desk looks fantastic. I'm definitely going to try and build one after this semester.

Whats the benefit of having a standing desk exactly isn't it uncomfortable after a while?
Preach! Been using this setup for about half a year. Old picture but the only thing that is changed is that I also have an anti-fatigue mat on the floor where I stand (£20 maybe on Amazon).

Got my da to build me a base to put my IKEA desk w/ extendable legs on top of and another ghetto stand for the monitors.
The key recommendations are that your arms should be hanging at right angles with the forearm parallel to the desk and the centre of your screen should be at your eye level. (These things are also true of the ergonomically correct seated position)
If those measurements are off you are probably damaging yourself in the long run. Lots of good resources online e.g. http://notsitting.com/standing-desks/making-the-switch/proper-height/
