So I get extreme screen tear, i have 180 fps in 6's and 150 in hl but I still get extreme screen tear...? Any ideas?

do you play in fullscreen? i used to get screen tearing from playing in fullscreen but not in windowed borderless
Seeing that your framerate is that high, try vsync with triple buffering?
you could just limit your framerate to 60 if your monitor is only 60Hz, couldnt you?

hz =/= fps
having 60hz is not the same has having 60fps

yes thank you i am aware im saying thatd solve his issues you fcuking idiots
fun fact: limiting to 60fps on 60hz actually makes screen tearing worse, cuz the tear will be consistent instead of appearing randomly. imagine a horizontal line across your whole monitor all the time, moving slightly every frame... it's so distracting
before you ask "why not just sync the 60 frames to your 60hz??" that's called vsync and we all know it causes lag.

Not true. If it makes it worse, then it's a completely different issue. Screen tearing occurs when you have two or more frames in a single screen draw, therefore making it impossible for screen tears to happen with vertical sync. There are a few special cases though. V-Sync can't directly cause lag, only waiting for frames w/ V-Sync can. Go get your facts right before posting BS information in a Q & A Thread.

Having too many Frames for your monitor to display is the main cause for screen tears. Would obviously solve his problems, assuming that this is a normal screen tear scenario.
I personally have MSi Afterburner to always limit my FPS to 121. I've heard from some competitive CS:GO Player that the best FPS Cap is your monitor's refresh rate * 2 +1. I don't know if the information is valid or not, but it works for me just fine.

If you can afford a G-Sync monitor and have a supported nvida GPU go for it, I just got one and its actually amazing always having perfectly synced frames(especially at 144hz), otherwise if you use an amd card your most gonna have to wait for some of the new monitors with Free-sync to come out.
If you cant afford either of those I'd say just try capping it like mighty said.

Okay, to limit your FPS to 121, type into console: "fps_max 121" When you aren't on a server. Hope I helped.
