Microsoft will let you upgrade to Windows 10 for free, even if you're running a pirated version

In what may turn out to be an historic move in the battle against piracy, Microsoft's Terry Myerson has announced that the software vendor will allow all customers — whether they're running genuine Windows software or a pirated version — to upgrade to Windows 10 for free.
The move is clearly targeted at the Chinese market, where two-thirds of all PCs run pirated versions of Windows.
Good news for some of us, eh? Anyone running the preview build of Windows 10 have impressions on it?

Dave_By qualified PCs, what do they mean?
My understanding is that it's meant to follow up on the news that Windows 10 [will be] free for all Windows 8.1 and 7 users for first year after release. So a qualified PC would be anyone running Win 7 or greater, and upgrades in the first year of Win 10's release.

It's good to see companies are actually starting to see people that pirate software/music/films etc. as potential customers I pretty much don't pirate anything anymore as Spotify is more convenient, Steam, Origin etc. are good platforms for games, loads of TV shows are heading to on demand services. The only thing left is pretty much movies.

You're absolutely right, although in the U.S., Netflix and other digital video services have been great for me.

Exactly, ever since spotify, steam, etc, appeared, the service was much more convenient than pirating so I just stopped pirating altogether.
Nowadays only movies and series, and I use Popcorn time for that, yeah it works pretty great, like any decent movies/series streaming service should work right. It's a shame that pirates often offer better services than the ones on the market

Does anyone know if 10 will let you use an AMD card without vsync. That was the only reason I wouldn't go to windows 8.

Anyone know how OneGet functions on it? Thats really the selling point for me other than the mac like desktop/alt tabbing.

How do these upgrades actually work? If you upgrade and later want to reinstall do you need to use your old version discs for verification or a full install first? If you own a retail copy with multiple licenses, does the free upgrade apply to those, and what happens when you go to use one on another system?

I used windows 10 for 3 weeks as I was waiting for a new os and it had some bugs but thats normal for a build. Everything else looked clean cept for some reason I had lower fps on windows 10
