We weren't serious in mumble either I think spadez was just very frustrated at the time. Spadez has actually gotten really good and he's grown up a lot since the beginning of tf2. I don't know why people hate on him so much but it's the way it is I guess. Either way, don't quit.

I'm so tired of hearing about the "invite circle-jerk" or "invite illuminati".
People seem to think that invite players are somehow different or secluded from the rest of the community and that's just not really the case. There is no illustrious invite aristocracy that is impenetrable by anyone who isn't already in invite. You don't need to walk and talk with the augustness of a king to get our attention and make yourself known. The simple fact is that there are fewer people in invite than in other divisions and most of them have met each other in person on at least one occasion. We're (mostly) all friends and we enjoy playing with one another.
That's not to say that we don't enjoy playing with others or that we're unwilling to invite others to play with us; they're simply not the people we already know and are therefore not our first choices.
Invite pugs are played almost nightly, and more often than not, there is at least one player in the group who isn't in ESEA-I.
Want to make yourself known and eventually be a candidate for a starting role on an invite team? Play IM and do well. Play in invite pugs when the chance comes. Nobody is unwilling to accept new blood in the group; just don't be a dick to everyone once you're there.
Hell, we play with defy and visitor. If that doesn't make it clear that anyone's welcome, I don't know what will.

The thing is however, it's extremely rare for an IM player to get picked up cold and brought up. Why? Because there are always experienced invite players looking (Where do you think the players of all the dead teams go?) who may not be better, but are safer bets. If you want to get a chance in Invite i suggest you either get extremely lucky or actually put in some hard work with a team and dont let your team die season after season.

I remember back when I pugged with spadez a couple years back around the time of his infamous "death". Almost everyone in the pug group treated him badly, while he did act pretty immature, he didn't really deserve the amount of hate he got.
I figure this was the case throughout spadez' tf2 career, except now he isn't even notably immature or annoying. As for when he was, he has obviously paid for it with interest by now. This thread is probably one of the nicest "I am quitting" threads ever. Obviously people have some respect for spadez if they are willing to come out and say, 'It wasn't serious, sorry.' And then even go on to ask him to keep playing. spadez isn't super immature, he was just conditioned by years of people treating him badly and he just expected that to still be the case.

i feel like i can relate a lot. i was frustrated with the way i was treated when i first started at age 14. the community was much more cruel than today. i became a troll because of that. 5 years later, it still affects my relationships with other players. a lot of people still see me as a pug/forum troll, affecting many opportunities to play on a team that didn't have any of my friends in them. that's why for the last 2-3 years, i've only backed up for teams of my friends with the exception of two teams (one that i decided to join because i couldn't find a team of my level and another that i was invited to by a member of the first team i mentioned). just play with your friends and have fun, i guess.
