hello i just picked up http://www.amazon.com/Sony-CPD-G220R-Trinitron-CRT-Monitor/dp/B00005TS5S from extended family
was wondering if there was anything other than messing with the resolution so i can hit the max refresh rate of 170 hz for this
also i dont want to make another thread for this question but how bad would the input lag be if i used the crt with a vga to composite adapter cable?

the best balance you're going to get is something like 1024x768 @ 100-120hz

If it's a conversion CABLE there will be no additional input lag. If there is a conversion BOX there will be additional input lag.

the highest refresh rate i can get out of a resolution is dependent on the total vertical pixels. automatic timing used a lot of extra pixels that werent needed, so changed that shit to manual and was able to get more hz there.

I can see that you are using manual but under what criteria do you replace the values when attempting to get higher rates mate?

total vertical and horizontal pixels

honestly the best way is to just lower your resolution. Almost all other methods you're either looking at maybe 2-5 extra Hz, or you're going to be cutting your screen off at the edges.
