I am now actually happy despite having finals.

what if they were going to drop tf2 from lan but after hearing the news they decide to bring back ESL tf2 and put it on the world stage
stay positive boys
I think that even if tf2 is dropped from ESEA, it'll get picked up by another league due to all of the attention that competitive matchmaking there's a really good chance that someone else will pick it up. And it'll be bigger than before

If Killing is asking if the teams would play without LAN then it means it would be online only, hence Invite is very much alive but without a LAN.
If Invite chooses not to play because its online only, which they can do if they dont want to play without a LAN. Then Invite kills ESEA TF2.
Simple as that. Decision is up to the players.

if some people dont want to play, there will be no shortage of other players that can get moved up to invite. if theres no lan, would invite fees get lowered?

Open-level TF2 can be VERY alive if they have enough players paid. I worry that losing LAN causes people to lose interest in high-level TF2, though.

I think Invite will be renamed to Premier or Main and take the fee from the CS division of the name they choose.
Also, we can survive without a LAN. Europe never even had an end-of-season LAN and they're doing just fine.

As of right now Open isnt quite as big as it was turning out to initially be. Still a good sized season, but not 70+ teams like we were hoping.
Invite fees provide a lot of money to ESEA for the TF2 division. I would imagine that fees would likely be lowered though. Regardless the thing that decides if Invite is dead is if the Invite players kill it.

Wouldn't it be hard to find motivation for a three-month invite grind at $95 if there is no LAN to reward a team for a top-half finish?

i mean, psh... if we need players in invite that want the game alive... i guess i could take the bullet. you know, for the community.

Yeah that is why I expect it would be lowered, but I don't work at ESEA so who knows what their pricing could be.

killing also said the invite prize pool is going to be the same regardless of lan or not so theres going to be an over 10k prizepool to play for, 1100 or so for every player on the 1st place team
+ with saloontf and matchmaking sometime in the future would be silly not to keep playing imo!!!

I think that will be the case too, but time and time again ESEA has shown itself to be the #1 option for tf2 in NA. If a lan is a viable, long-term option, ESEA will make it happen again. Please, let's not split up open+ again, we're only just now recovering numbers-wise.

lpkane isnt dumb.
He has already stated he enjoys TF2 and having it in his league, hes kept it all this time even with a loss, the only reason he would be forced to drop LAN for it is because the opportunity with ESL is too good to pass up.
If he sees matchmaking and Valve support coming for a game he already likes and would have the potential to monopolize like he has done with NA CS:GO he'll go for it. TF2 might just have one season of limbo as things get sorted and opportunities are seen.
Don't be dumb and leave the game you've already put so much time into when the opportunity for big things is right around the corner.

Well how's this for a hypothetical:
ESEA joins with ESL, gets tons more money through exposure/signups/etc in CS:GO.. in 6 months/a year's time they look and see "Wow holy shit Matchmaking in TF2 has made numbers explode, maybe we can re-examine this LAN thing" and guess what? They have the budget to have some sort of TF2 LAN now.
Hypothetical. Just hypothetical.

quick question, if this league is funded by ESL and ESEA does that mean everyone banned by valve for match fixing has a chance to compete?
