Someone is going to be suspended for something someone else did, which wasn't caught by someone that should have caught it, and there's a kinda sorta more-than-fifty-percent chance that he knew about it.

What it amounts to is either this is a morality suspension (A role model shouldn't lie, that's a bad example for the youth), or the NFL realized they screwed the pooch on this one and this is the only punishment that would directly affect the Patriots this season.
