I also can't help but laugh that anyone thinks fantasy is the root of any of this. If this were a serious match, we'd obviously be playing much more properly. But to be honest, if potential competitive players are really turned off by this, the only way to make sure it's noticed is to post a deluded comment about it on the forum and start a shitshow, because this was neither streamed nor cast.
Maybe it's just my viewpoint as a competitor, but the only people who deserve to be upset is the team we played against. But that's how competition is. Sometimes there's a little bad manner involved. What this should do is make any competitive fire they have burn brighter so they can come back and beat us next time and punish us for "fucking around." And as I've argued on my stream many times, is only "fucking around" if it's unsuccessful and you lose for it. Pyro isn't a "fuck around" class if it's actually beating a team. But if you're behind and you keep losing rounds because you're on pyro, then it's pretty clear you're fucking around. "Fucking around" implies I didn't actually want to win the match, which isn't the truth because I did wind up switching back to scout in order to push the game forward.

And no, I agree with you - the team you beat are the only ones who really have a claim to be upset. That's valid. Maybe it is a little overreaching to come out and try to speak on behalf of those players, but like we saw in this thread, there are at least a few people who felt weird about the match. Yeah, it's probably thrown out of proportion because of the previous posts, and I know people feeling "weird" doesn't matter much.
You have a good point about "fucking around" teams being ideally way easier to beat too. That was in the back of my head with this.
But I don't think the concern was with teams fucking around during a non-serious match.. but more fantasy TF2 (this thread topic) becoming more important to people than the game itself. Kinda like an exaggerated version of inflating your stats. Double sniper is obviously just fucking around, that's nothing, but going Vaccinator to get more ubers is obviously fantasy-related. So maybe that's just shade, but you can't say fantasy is not a part of it.

I love how suddenly we have to have a thorough investigation and figure out this tragedy of a match that ruined everyones night. Honestly they can play their videogame the way they want to, and the real problem is an invite level team shouldn't be losing to 2 snipers.
they didnt run 2 snipers and whenever they did stupid shit we won rounds so i wouldnt call it losing to that, and getawhale we had fun no complaints from us
