Wholegrainhow will alfa and TLR practice? who will they scrim? will they just show up to LAN with a roamer they've never played with before or put up with 150+ ping rockets?
this genuinely makes me worry about TLR's performance, not even taking into consideration how alfa matches up against the other stellar roamers.
He'll just run 150+ ping sniper to mid on every scrim and practice roamer on LAN alone while everyone's asleep

I don't really watch NA TF2 but is this Alfa guy good? because there's a lot of comments mocking him..
I mean they could have picked up harbleu because he doesn't come to lan to lose.

afaik he's a solid ESEA LAN pick, but very mediocre amongst LAN-capable players

The non-sarcastic and/or joking response is that
1. Alfa is a very good player who has played every sixes class at a top-Invite level.
2. When playing soldier or scout, he tends to go sniper a lot, occasionally at questionable moments. However, despite his reputation, he's a pretty amazing sniper. Maybe not quite as godly as Forsaken or Flippy, but he's really good.
3. He's made some questionable posts on this forum in particular, which has *ahem* influenced his reputation for being a bit asocial.
So yeah, he'll be good for TLR; there's no doubt (especially after his last LAN performance which just about everyone's expectations) he can perform with the best of the world (although as a roamer he does tend to have a lot of deaths). It's more of a concern how they'll be able to practice effectively, honestly. But all in all, he'll be fine, he's a good, smart player and he'll do well.

He will be good enough to push a team to being a LAN team. However, his performance against teams at that level seems to be subpar.
Seems pretty easy to understand

If that's true then he's not a lan player. You're not good enough for a lan team if you can't perform at a lan level any of the time you play at lan.

Not necessarily, you can be right in the middle of being incredible and low invite without qualifying as either.

If you have subpar performances every single lan, you're not a lan player.
It's the same as the idea that you're not actually invite level unless you do somewhat well in invite.

imo what makes a lan player isn't someone who does especially good at lan, but someone who doesn't choke massively due to the enviroment

Having a subpar performance is different from not performing the best out of all the lan players. (Idk if that's necessarily accurate as he and ma3la did work in s18 and their team got 2nd place, regardless of the number of times alfa died)
In any given group of players there has to be a range in performance, and by your logic it seems that players on a 4th place lan team should no longer be qualified as lan players.

that's my point. I'm saying alfa didn't actually have subpar performances in the way people are implying; thus, he is a LAN player.
And no that's not my logic either. its entirely possible to still have an okay performance individually and as a team if you get 4th

No, your point was that if you perform badly at every LAN you're not a LAN player. You could be the worst player in the top 4 teams and still be better than any other pick from invite. It doesn't make sense, although in practise doesn't apply here, it's just terrible logic.

I completely agree with you, but I wasn't speaking on literals. I just wouldn't be able to morally call myself an x level player if I were obviously the worst one, even if I technically were that level.

Fair enough, and as for alfa I think he's not a really top level roamer from what I've seen (for example on the level of blaze, mike, seagull, zebbo, rising, sdb) and he won't be able to practise until a week before the LAN but he's the next best thing. And he's had a tonne of lan experience and has a lot more versatility than some of those players. I think it'll add what TLR need - more random explosive ability, more stability and more experience. Assuming he doesn't throw to let ascent win.

It's really good for TLR to have a player with lots of experience in high pressure lan situations. I'm sure Nico has some experience with the French scene, but there's a big difference between those and i55.

Since they brought WAR and Alfa in, they now only have 3 players from their team who don't have LAN experience at a top level. That's only one more than reason, helps them out a lot imo.
