State news agency KCNA said "wicked Japanese imperialists" had "deprived Korea of even its standard time" by changing the clocks during occupation.
Funny part is they don't even have a legitimate need to change it; apparently they're just doing it out of spite.

Well they do already have their own calendar may as well change the way time is set too lol. Maybe it has something to do with recalibrating their "revolutionary" calendar for some left over time (kinda like leap year days for our calendar).
There's nothing wrong with a half-hour timezone. I've been living it my whole life. Get on board boys.

Yeah apparently it's to not be on the time zone imposed upon them by Japan - something the DPRK hasn't really gotten over yet, and brings up at every available opportunity.
*speculation* I wonder if the change has anything to do with Kim jong un's reception of the world peace award from Indonesia for his "anti-imperialist efforts" Bring out some more anti-imperialist clout.
